Job Post

Supply Chain Associate

36 W 20th Street
New York, NY 10011
Bowery is adding an Associate to our Supply Chain team to tackle a variety of high-priority challenges as Bowery continues to expand its regional and national footprint of highly automated indoor vertical farms. This is an opportunity to join a rapidly growing startup and have a large and lasting impact.     The Supply Chain Associate will work closely with the rest of the Supply Chain team to build core processes around procurement, inventory flow, capacity planning, distribution and expansion.  You’ll tackle tough analytical problems and interesting organizational challenges, helping to design solutions and ensure they scale as Bowery continues to grow.  You’ll work cross-functionally with many stakeholders, including our operations, sales, finance, software, product development, and new facility design and construction teams. Self-direction, an ability to distill complex problems into elegant solutions, and an ability to communicate those solutions clearly across the organization are critical skills.   What You’ll Do
  • Help to build and develop Bowery’s Supply Chain function with the head of Supply Chain and SVP of Operations in support of Bowery’s growing set of indoor vertical farms
  • Define and execute initiatives to reduce Bowery’s unit costs as production scales up, considering how things like standard processes, labor systems, facility scheduling, site organization and materials usage impact our ability to efficiently get product to customers
  • Develop a hardened procurement and inventory management system that balances cost against reliability, ensures Bowery farms never run out of critical materials, and increases efficiency as the footprint of farms expands nationally and globally
  • Establish clear tools for the farm operations team to use to account for, allocate, and utilize every leaf of lettuce harvested, working with data scientists and software engineers to incorporate these tools into Bowery’s proprietary software and automation systems
  • Design and deploy a distribution plan for current and future farms, making critical in-house vs. outsource, route optimization, reliability, and cost management decisions
  • Play a critical coordination role around Bowery’s overall capacity expansion discussions, helping to define and measure attractiveness of future potential farm locations and determining how much farm capacity to build and at what pace
  • Identify strategic and tactical supply chain challenges and drive fast and inventive solutions
  • Work closely with the data science and AI team to define methods of measuring and informing progress against all of the above initiatives, and work with the head of supply chain to create clear communications and touchpoints with senior leadership about the health and progress in this part of Bowery’s organization
What You Have
  • BS degree in a STEM or business field; MBA preferred but not required
  • 5+ years of experience in a supply chain, operations, or operations-focused consulting or investing role, with management experience preferred
  • Direct exposure to at least a subset of major supply chain topics, including procurement, inventory, distribution, logistics, capacity planning, and/or operations management and strategy
  • Ability to develop and evolve strategies, frameworks and systems, and to drive execution and real-world results (and be equally passionate about both)
  • Excel/Google Sheets wizardry, familiarity with SQL, and substantial experience building analytical models from the ground up
  • Excellent communications skills and the ability to distill complex and quantitatively heavy material into clear, concise communication, whether to the shop floor or to senior leadership
  • Honed interpersonal skills and deep empathy toward colleagues, with an ability to “soft manage” teams to achieve cross-functional results
  • Experience defining clear design requirements to hand off to software or systems engineering teams is a plus
  • Experience in a hardcore manufacturing, food production, or agricultural operations business a plus
