From the very beginning, businesses have contributed to the breadth and depth of the interest communities on Instagram and people have looked to Instagram to build relationships with businesses. In fact, 80% of people on Instagram now follow a business and these relationships have naturally given way to shopping behavior. A recent survey showed that 75% of MAP already open Instagram with the intent to shop.
People love to shop on Instagram because it's inspirational, visual-first and personalized to their passions. From finding the makeup from that video tutorial to discovering new sneakers from an exclusive drop, people love shopping on Instagram as an interest in and of itself. With Instagram Shopping, we have a unique opportunity to better serve the vast number of people who are already looking to us to shop, by leaning into these strengths while making it easier for them to discover, consider and checkout the products that inspire them all within our app.
Our aim is to provide a differentiated shopping experience on mobile that is brand-forward, entertaining, experiential and focuses on the joy of shopping, rather than just the chore of buying. By doing so, we can close a known gap in the existing mobile e-commerce ecosystem, as mobile e-commerce is rapidly growing, but is still a small portion of the massive global retail industry.
- Develop the vision and strategy for window shopping and intentful shopping journeys on Instagram so that they are personalized, entertaining and help people ultimately discover the products they love from the shops they love. This includes ownership of surfaces such as, Shopping Home in Explore, Shopping Tab on Profile and Shopping in Hashtags and Categories/Topics.
- You will be responsible for translating that vision and strategy into concrete roadmaps and goals, and working with your team to execute.
- You will be responsible for collaborating across teams/orgs, driving ambiguous areas from start to finish, and communicating the team's strategy, vision and progress, especially in front of leadership.
