  • Technical Product Manager, IDR

    Location: Boston, MA

The battle between attackers and defenders is asymmetrical. Most organizations struggle to gather the people or resources to effectively win the game. Our mission is to provide the defenders with easy to use solutions that maximize the impact of their teams.

As a Technical Product Manager for InsightIDR, Rapid7's threat detection and response product, you'll be part of a team building solutions that help security teams do just that.

In this role, you will marry a knack for quickly understanding customer problems with the ability to build effective solutions that make the complex conquerable. This role is an amazing opportunity to become an impactful leader in an exciting, rapidly growing and global technology company.

Here is a snapshot of the work you'll be doing:

  • Act as product owner with the engineering team for features and projects

  • Translate high level technical and functional requirements into detailed user stories that clearly articulate the benefit, goal and acceptance criteria to the engineering team

  • Work closely with the engineering team to ensure that requirements are prioritized, delivered on time, and meet the acceptance criteria

  • Conduct workshops with engineering, UX and other stakeholders to define the solution at both a technical and functional level

  • Manage the product backlog to ensure that the right things are being worked on at the right time, and ensure the rest of the business and customers know when milestones will get delivered

  • Define, track and report on the post-launch success metrics for the deliverables

  • Work with subject-matter experts like SOC analysts and security researchers to understand customer problems

  • This sounds like a lot, but you won't be doing it alone. You'll be working with product management, engineering, sales, security experts, and UX teams in a culture that highly values collaboration, teamwork, and doing the right thing for the customer.

Previous experience as a product manager, product engineer or both is highly valued, but if you have strong cybersecurity domain knowledge (having previously worked as a security practitioner, technical account manager, sales engineer, or similar role in cybersecurity), experience in the software industry, AND you are well organized, extremely customer driven, and really looking for a challenge as you grow to the next level -- you might be a great fit for this position as well.

    What we'll expect

  • Curious, empathetic and professional customer interactions to gather requirements and identify pain points.

  • You dont need to be a developer, but you have some familiarity with working with scripting languages. If you read our API documentation, you would understand it and be able to demo it to others

  • Highly organized, detail oriented and deadline focused to manage and drive product roadmap

  • Strong analytical and decision making skills to prioritize activities, issues and business use in a fast moving continuous delivery environment

  • Ability to represent the end-user in design and technology reviews

  • Strong presentation and communication skills to drive team alignment and build cross-functional relationships

  • Up to 20% travel to Rapid7 offices to work with UX, Dev, and Security Practitioner partners, as well as some industry conferences

  • Passion for security and making the world a safer place

  • Talk to customers to understand their pain points and motivations and translate these into requirements that support the product roadmap

  • Demo the product to customers, partners, customer advisory boards, and other internal groups

Employee Testimonials

James Green
Director of Engineering, Engineering, Software Development

"My favorite memory of being a 'Moose' is our first ever company-wide hackathon in Cambridge. After a fun–filled week for the company kick-off, we still managed to deliver, through the night, on some amazing ideas."

Brett Garofalo
Manager, Mid-Market Sales

"I am not a natural–born salesperson or leader. Rapid7 gave me the mentorship opportunities and leeway to develop those skillsets. Having the support of my management allowed me to take risks and learn from mistakes instead of being tentative and afraid to put myself out there."

"It's pretty cool to look around the room and know that I played a part in making all of that happen, and that I hopefully helped those people move into a role that they find really rewarding and exciting. Especially in a company where they in turn can have a big impact and take their careers to the next level. The fact that they are all good people, and that we all manage to have a bit of fun in the process, helps too."

"I feel that [our core value for] continuous learning best represents me because it's been essential to my career here. There are no shortage of tools and techniques that can be applied to the projects I work on, and despite what I think I might know about the problem at hand, more often than not there are new and novel ways to approach it."
