Title: Software Engineer 3 (Operational Engineering/Enterprise Engineering)

Duties: Design and develop enhanced self-service application features via web pages, web services, and component development for internal customers and stakeholders. Integrate Wayfair and third-party systems. Architect and lead major team initiatives. Challenge existing architectural and code quality and advocate for improvements by setting new standards. Resolve problems of scale for highly performant, reliable, and fault tolerant systems across the US, Canada, and Europe. Partner with Product Managers. Participate in running sprint estimations and backlog grooming. Mentor junior Engineers.


Requirements: Requires a Masters degree (or foreign equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a directly related field plus two (2) years of experience performing full-stack design and development using PHP, JavaScript, and SQL.

Experience must include one (1) year in each of the following (experience may be gained concurrently):

  1. Full-stack web programming using PHP, JavaScript, JQuery, SQL, Mustache, and Handlebars to ensure cross-browser and cross-platform compatibility
  2. Shell scripting
  3. Version control using GIT
  4. Design and development using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to create scalable applications
  5. Designing back-end applications using PHP, HTML, or JavaScript
  6. Employing engineering and optimization best practices regarding front-end web standards, code maintainability, page rendering, and browser performance
  7. Defining test plans and performing unit testing
  8. SQL database development including designing queries, triggers and stored procedures, performance tuning, and data ETL
  9. Utilizing Jenkins and Puppet to deploy application code into server environments
  10. Interfacing with business product leaders and engineers to gather requirements and translate requirements into system design

Will accept a Bachelors degree and five (5) years of described experience.

Experience may be gained before, during, or after issuance of advanced degree.
