Title: Software Engineer 3

Location: 100 Huntington Avenue, 4 Copley Place, Boston, MA 02116

Duties: Perform software engineering services including design and development of required features for Android app. Understand the feasibility and scope of the work, investigate endpoints and coordinate to get endpoints fixed. Validate endpoints functionality using Postman or GraphQL. Work with team to sub-task larger feature into smaller parts and implement feature. Write unit tests using Mockito and Robolectric, and UI tests using Espresso. Follow-up on the tasks assigned to junior developers. Review coding of peers and and junior engineers to ensure conformity to coding standards and to maintain or improve app stability. Ensure issues identified by Lint, Checkstyle and Findbugs are fixed. Keep track of bugs in the features worked on by the team, identify bugs and fix bugs caused by the apps code. Utilize Crashlytics and Appsee to detect issues in the production app and keep the PM apprised of major problems. Fix significant crashes in a timely manner. Work with the UX/UI team to ensure that features align with the mocks and are free of UI defects. Demonstrate changes to stakeholders and the wider App Team. Provide training on new libraries or app features. Write up tickets for technical debt, bugs and missing features. Prioritize urgent tasks and direct the team to change their focus as required. Mentor junior developers on difficult technical problems and facilitate understanding of Android system and related coding. Identify pain-points with existing processes, come up with improvements, discuss with the other team leads, and convey process changes to the entire team.

Requirements: Requires a Masters degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a directly related field plus six (6) years of experience in mobile application development. Experience must include:

Six (6) years in each of the following (experience may be gained concurrently):

  • Android development using Java or Kotlin
  • Utilizing Android SDK, Android Studio, interacting with API endpoints and debugging using breakpoints

Two (2) years in each of the following (experience may be gained concurrently):

  • Working with Android libraries including Retrofit, Dagger, Room, Android Support Libraries, Glide, Fresco, or RxJava
  • Utilizing Java and applying object oriented programing concepts including polymorphism, encapsulation, inheritance, and abstraction
  • MVP, MVVM, Viper, or MVC

One (1) year in each of the following (experience may be gained concurrently):

  • Writing tests using jUnit, Mockito, Roboelectric, and Espresso
  • Git including merge vs rebase, push, pull, fetch, and cherry-pick
  • Utilizing Jenkins as automation tool for builds
  • Back-end development with PHP
  • Front-end development using JavaScript, HTML, and CSS

Experience may be gained before, during, or after issuance of advanced degree.
