Chewy: Software Development Engineer-Fulfillment Optimization

Our Opportunity:

Chewy is hiring a Software Development Engineer, Java to join our Fulfillment Optimization team in Boston, MA. This is a high-profile position that will have exposure and impact across the entire business. Youll develop the features and systems that will help Chewy to continue wowing their customers.

What you'll do:

Youll be responsible for architecture, implementing, and maintaining software that drives the fulfillment optimization teams strategic product road-map. You will have a significant impact on this critical platform, which optimizes customer order routing, tracking, and delivery by processing current and historical data from many internal and external sources. Working with other technology teams, youll design and build interfaces that integrate vendor and supply chain, fulfillment, and financial systems. Youll solve complex problems by writing elegant, maintainable, and extensible code that reflects a deep understanding of the business and contributes meaningfully to the success of your team.

What you'll need:

  • BS degree in Computer Science, or similar field of study and practical experience
  • 5+ years industry experience with Java, but may include similar programming languages such as C++, Scala, Objective-C, and GO
  • Proficiency with object oriented design, data structures, algorithms, and complexity analysis
  • Understanding of software development lifecycle from ideation to deprecation
  • Sense of ownership around engineering best practices for coding, testing, and operations
  • Proven skill in design and problem solving
  • Experience in the design and implementation of scalable, cloud-based, highly available systems
  • Comfort working in agile development frameworks such as scrum
  • Strong communication and cross-functional skills
  • Experience in mentoring and educating your peers and stakeholders
  • Position may require travel

Bonus:

  • Experience with AWS and services such as SNS/SQS, cloudwatch, S3, EC2, RDS, and dynamo DB
  • Experience developing microservices
  • Experience in multiple programming paradigms
  • Experience in working in the business domain of e-commerce
  • Comfort driving dev-ops and automation activities including CI/CD, pipeline and environment creation, and dynamic code generation using tools
  • like Ansible and Swagger
  • System design experience including defining interfaces and contracts, interface validation, and system data flow and integration
  • Database experience: SQL, RDMBMS, Hibernate, jdbc, Postgres, Vertica
  • Ability to integrate machine learning and data analytics for production systems
  • Knowledge of protocol buffers, gRPC
  • Experience with various programming patterns including asynchronous stateless design
  • Support of Large scale public facing websites and REST interfaces
  • Web services technologies: ES6, Reactive MVC / MVVM, HTML5, Spring Boot, Kubernetes, Docker
