About your role

The Vertica DevOps team, located in Cambridge, seeks a senior development lead to further enhance the automate systems that facilitate the development of our Big Data Analytics Platform. It's an exciting time to join the team. Vertica is growing quickly to meet the high demand for Big Data solutions.

Required skills:

  • CI/CD pipeline setup
  • terraform
  • Python scripting
  • Must have used AWS
  • Linux knowledge/Bash skills
  • Security roles and log analysis
  • Lead small technical team(s)
  • Write requirements, specs and test plans to guide the software development process.
  • Help debug technical issue and become a subject matter expert.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers

Responsibilities:

  • Architect software modules, set goals and deliverables
  • Apply the concepts of rapid prototyping and data visualizations.
  • Present complex system state in a manner manageable and understandable by the end user.
  • Break up complex systems into modules which and be developed by a distributed team.
  • Manage or lead a small team to deliver completed and tested modules as per plan.
  • Adjust plan, design and timelines in the event of changed requirements or discovered issues or bugs.
  • Develop and Maintain a highly available infrastructure components design.
  • Secure the infrastructure, minimize access and automate backups and restores.
  • Develop toolset to monitor availability, (build automation) respond to outage events.
  • Orchestrate the monitoring components and develop components to enable system to self heal.
  • Test and validate down time scenarios and response protocols.
  • Automate upgrades to our infrastructure, roll out upgrades in a planned and minimally invasive manner (A/B testing).
