Position Overview

Travel requirement: Up to 10%

Reports to: Director of Product Testing & Dev 

Roles & Responsibilities

Product Development

  • Assist in hands on evaluation of potential products, inverters, motors, batteries, charger and auxiliary components  to introduce into the XL hybrid systems
  • Contribute to drafting the functional requirements documents for assessing products
  • Build, test and deploy required tools, & test fixtures to assess performance of hybrid vehicle system subcomponents
  • Maintain workplace safety, specifically around high voltage electrical components

Support vehicle electrical systems prototype and pre-production installs/service

  • Participate in design review meetings
  • Assist electrical and mechanical engineers in pre-production prototype builds of hybrid electric vehicles and/or vehicle subcomponents
  • Build prototype circuits modify existing PCBs (desired skill)
  • Summarize all findings during installations and report to Engineering in clear and concise reports, presentations
  • Complete vehicle inspections and document on all work completed

Troubleshoot electronic subsystems and vehicle electrical systems

  • Assist with Diagnosis and  root cause determination of issues
  • Build and repair wire harnesses and cables
  • Initiate change orders for XLH designed wiring harnesses and electronic assemblies

R&D test equipment fabrication and operation

  • Participate in the design of Engineering test equipment
  • Build setups using a variety of machinery fabrication tools, and electrical equipment
  • Operate and administer tests with proper documentation and reporting

Review and advise on the development of installation and service manuals

  • Review for accuracy all vehicle installation guides and service manuals for electrical content on new platforms
  • Provide necessary feedback to Engineering/Production to release documentation

Preassemble and kit automotive hybrid components and subsystems

  • Support Production on kitting assemblies (coolant systems, battery, OBC, inverter and motor connections)
  • Roll out production test process and procedures using lessons learn from R&D validation testing

In-field support and service of customer vehicles; both local and out of state

  • Assist XLH Service for the local New England region
  • Troubleshoot electrical systems in the field

Shop organizational responsibility

  • Keep all work areas clean and organized daily, 5S
  • Assist with Processing incoming and outgoing parts and materials, i.e. storage, tagging and identification, scrap
  • Manage electrical shop supply inventory, identify and address shortages of wire, connectors, terminals and proper tools

Required Skills:

  • Minimum 5-10 years, direct or related, electrical equipment or electronic assembly technician experience
  • Proven track record of working safely with electronics, high voltage system exposure preferred
  • Ability to independently carry out job assignments
  • Electric vehicle high voltage experience or training (XLH can provide training)
  • Effective verbal and written communications (the candidate should be able to describe work accomplishments or concerns)
  • Excellent teamwork skills while working in a fast-paced environment
  • Motivated, self-starter, eager to face new challenges provided by an emerging technology product company
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Proficient computer skills (general PC, internet, and network use; MS Office use)
  • Experience performing electrical repair and assembly work
  • Experience constructing and debugging test fixtures
  • Experience supporting engineering development work
  • Mechanical and electronics fabrication skills (machinery fabrication tool use, soldering, heat treatment, circuit board build and debug)
  • Experience using electronic test equipment such as Oscilliscopes, DMM,
  • Comfort with integrated circuitry


AS degree in electrical or electromechanical training, commensurate military training, or formal automotive manufacturer training program
