The Director of Sourcing & Contracting is an integral member of the Product & Operations leadership team for Explore America. He or she will oversee a team of Sourcing & Contracting Managers responsible for negotiating for inventory to satisfy the needs of our rapidly-growing student tours business in the US, setting allocation and utilization strategy for suppliers nationwide, and managing a large budget with critical business impact. In addition to managing and developing the team, the Director of Sourcing & Contracting will be personally involved in a handful of major supplier relationships, and will represent EF within industry groups.

In this role, the Director will utilize his or her strengths in the following areas:

Team Leadership

  • Set direction for a team of Sourcing & Contracting Managers, each entrusted with significant supplier relationship responsibilities
  • Serve as a speaking partner and coach to build the skills and help to manage the careers of each individual on the team
  • Create short-, medium-, and long-term goals and vision for the team to drive performance, business impact, and innovation

Sourcing & Contracting Strategy

  • Take ownership, along with Operations Finance, of the US Student Tours Operational Budget and budgeting process
  • Direct sourcing and contracting objectives and processes to ensure capacity requirements are fulfilled on budget and at an exceptional level of quality and customer experience
  • Set, manage and adjust sourcing and inventory consumption strategies through existing tools and new processes and resources that you will co-create to improve efficiency, accuracy, and iterative decision-making

General Management & Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Support collaboration among Product & Operations teams to achieve day-to-day performance
  • Take responsibility for owning and participating in new initiatives, working with your peers on the Product & Operations Leadership team
  • Provide a senior presence across the Product & Operations team in matters relating to staff management, strategic planning, and high-stakes situational leadership, among others

The position requires:

  • Experience and demonstrated success in leadership and people development
  • The ability to grasp and create business strategy
  • Analytical, data-driven and detail oriented decision-making
  • Savvy negotiation skills and understanding of supplier contracting
  • The ability to build and manage business relationships
  • A bent toward collaboration across the Product & Ops Team and broader business
  • Balancing operational and customer focus
  • Availability to travel fairly frequently (1-2 short (2-3 days) domestic trips per month, on average)
