We are seeking a talented and self-motivated Binder Scientist to develop novel binders and binder strategies for metal powders as well as other substrates. They will lead a small group of technicians in formulation and characterization work, support the materials development and engineering teams in troubleshooting and expediting product improvement cycles.
Responsibilities:
- Developing binders and binder systems that can be broadly applied to metal 3D printing
- Conducting material characterization and analysis such as pH, viscometry, surface tension analysis and mechanical measurements.
- Provide technical and project guidance for a small group of technicians
- Devising testing methods to evaluate specific binder properties and performance
- Collaborating to develop binders that influence design of next generation printing platforms.
- Maintaining high level of communications with cross-functional team, and partners
- Working with an interdisciplinary team to define, write, and execute designs of experiments including mixture designs.
- Provide pilot quantities of binders to print and materials engineering teams.
- Work with supply chain to transition formulations to toll manufacturers
- Develop suppliers with novel raw materials supporting program goals
- Develop and maintain internal development schedules with engineering, materials development and R&D functions.
Qualifications:
- Ability to resolve complex issues in creative, efficient, and effective ways
- Able to provide the customer and company-wide perspective to detailed technical decisions
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- PhD or MS in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Polymer Science, or equivalent
Preferred Experience:
- Inkjet and injet printhead experience
- Binder and/or adhesives formulation
- Physical and mechanical metallurgy
- Additive manufacturing
- Design of Experiment with emphasis on Mixture Studies
