Before hearing about the opening for a Senior PR Specialist at Workhuman, I was feeling a bit lost in my career and even felt like I might want to make a switch into People Operations from PR. I’ve always felt strongly about the importance of bringing our whole selves to work and formally recognizing colleagues for the work we do. It’s truly critical to driving strong business results, which the corporate world is only just beginning to realize. Culture is so important to a company and I wanted to be a part of shaping it and the human workplace. With Workhuman I found the best of both worlds – I get to share stories around the power of social recognition and gratitude in the workplace while leveraging the skills I’ve developed over the course of my career in PR. I’ve been here for almost 4 months now and it’s the best decision I’ve ever made.

From my research, I felt that Workhuman was the place for me based on my interest in HR and passion for helping customers achieve their goals. After working in the healthcare technology space for a long time, I was excited to dive into a different industry. As I went through the interview process, it quickly became apparent how much Workhuman was actually invested in me as a person and as a potential employee. It was made clear to me that they appreciated my background, and they clearly expressed to me how I would fit at Workhuman. Workhuman presented me with an opportunity to challenge myself professionally while feeling like I found a positive workplace that puts humans first.

When I was studying a master's degree in HR management, my area of focus was performance management. As part of my research, I discovered some whitepapers by a company called Globoforce (now Workhuman) outlining a different approach to performance management, one that leveraged  recognition and continuous feedback from across the organization. I started following them on social media and knew I wanted to join. I felt a strong connection to how Workhuman advocated for the ‘human’ first, saw employees as more than a ‘resource’, and advocated for respect – for respect for customers, urgency, teamwork, and respect for all. When an opportunity to join the talent development team became available I was ‘all in’. I joined in March 2020 and have felt supported, developed, challenged, excited, and genuinely happy every day since.
