Can you share the details on what Reggora does?
Reggora is a technology company that is transforming the approach to residential valuation. The home appraisal is one of the most labor-intensive and time-consuming components of securing a mortgage, and our team aims to fix that. We’re introducing modern technology and integrations to the industry, creating unprecedented operational efficiency for both lenders and appraisers. Earning our Series B in January 2021, we have raised over $45M in funding and are growing quickly.
What’s your company’s current working environment for employees?
Reggora is a remote first company and we currently have employees in 18 states -- 1/3rd of Reggora is outside the Boston area (and growing!). In addition to the flexibility that has come from being a fully remote company, from their first day at Reggora, our employees (who we call Reggorians!) are set up for success with a $500 WFH stipend. This stipend gives employees the opportunity to set up their home offices in the way that best supports their work needs. Since we understand that working from home isn't the right thing for everyone -- and that life circumstances change over time -- we also offer accommodations as needed such as WeWork memberships.
Our goal is to be a best-in class remote employer. Working at Reggora you can expect a focus on remote programming such as: lunch roulette where our employees are randomly matched with another Reggorian every 2 weeks to meet for virtual coffee or lunch; book club, where we read 1 book per month, discuss as a group and vote on our next selection; Reggora Masterclass, events taught by our very own talented Reggorians; and much more. Since we are fully remote, we primarily focus on virtual programming with plans for company wide in-person retreats bi-annually.
We collaborate in a variety of ways here at Reggora, such as: Agora, our once per month all-hands via Zoom where we cover topics including team updates, leadership updates, company-wide announcements, employee anonymous questions answered by leadership, and even an employee-run scavenger hunt. We also focus on the best tools to foster collaboration such as Slack, GSuite, 15Five, Confluence, and Salesforce, to name a few. We use these tools to uphold our remote communication core tenets: defaulting to transparency and asynchronous/written communication, and being intentional, responsive, and specific with our communication.
This year we also rolled out an employee listening program and added a new survey tool to better listen to our employees' feedback, regardless of where they’re located. We continuously evaluate all aspects of our employee experience in light of how well they work for a distributed workforce.
We also offer resources to help our remote employees stay healthy, body and mind. We have increased our focus on wellbeing and work-life balance over the last year and provide unlimited 24/7 access for mental health counseling, referral services for personal, family, financial, or legal concerns, and more through our Employee Assistance Program. Wellness programming such as monthly yoga, access for all employees to our wellness platform, Bright Pass, an ergonomics workshop, and a company steps challenge are just a few examples of the ways we are working to keep people active and well. At Reggora, we also have a flexible, unlimited time-off policy and encourage our employees to take time to disconnect and minimize burnout.
What are your company’s core values or how would you best describe the culture at Reggora?
We create our culture by living it every day. We recognize that our biggest strength is our team, and we want each Reggorian to leave their unique fingerprints on our culture. We foster a fast paced, collaborative work space where everyone is able to make a meaningful impact.
Our company values are:
Innovate with agility
We have a vision for the future and we work together to make it a reality. We thrive in hyper-growth mode and operate with agility to respond to the changing needs of our customers, the market, and our teammates.
Grow without ego
We are continuously learning and finding new ways to make an impact. As we grow, we remain humble and self-aware, and we repel internal politics. We foster an environment where everyone contributes and the best idea wins.
Put worth in your work
Our industry, customers, and teammates get our best effort every day. We have an innate drive to deliver with accountability, integrity, and our best judgment. We persevere through challenges along the way, because we know it’s worth it.
Be a housewarmer
We make people feel at home. We treat everyone with respect and compassion, and go out of our way to be helpful and welcoming.
We also strongly encourage both leadership and peer-to-peer recognition for our employees' hard work and have rolled out an award program we call “the Reggies”. We use HighFives (through Slack and 15Five) as our peer-to-peer recognition tool when an employee exemplifies one, or more, of our values. This is also how we nominate fellow employees for our quarterly Reggie awards.
Can you share the details on any diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives?
We want Reggora to be a place where people from a variety of identities, backgrounds, and life experiences feel at home which is why we announced the formalization of Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) this year. We recognize the crucial role ERGs play in fostering belonging for people from historically marginalized groups and/or underrepresented minorities in tech, and we are excited that this year our Women’s ERG is taking shape. This employee-founded and Reggora-sponsored group is focused on women at Reggora sharing, hosting, or attending events and driving programming focused on career resources, networking, and learning opportunities. We also have monthly women’s lunches for a fun connection opportunity. We know that’s just the start, and we hope more employee-driven resources groups will be formed in the coming months.
We also focus on bringing our employees programming for heritage months such as AAPI History Month, Black History Month, and Pride, as well as other events dedicated to underrepresented and/or historically marginalized groups.
Lastly, we are focused on diversity in our hiring. We advertise our jobs on different platforms that target underrepresented audiences in tech (for example, women and people of color). We are also working to implement a Rooney Rule in our recruiting process. For those that may not be familiar, the Rooney Rule requires at least one woman and one underrepresented minority be interviewed for every open position before an offer is made. This allows our recruiting team to ensure that we are interviewing candidates from all different identities, backgrounds, and walks of life, and that candidates get a chance to talk with different people in the company throughout the interview process to get answers about how inclusion and equity is lived at Reggora.
What types of activities are employees involved in at or outside the office?
We have a program called Give @ Reggora which highlights volunteer opportunities and other ways for our Reggora employees to give back. We partner with organizations such as: Big Brothers Big Sisters, Heading Home, Horizons for Homeless Children, and NAMMBA.
Our employees also get together through our virtual events such as: a comedy show performed by a comedian seen on SNL, dumpling cooking class hosted by our own Reggoraian chef, murder mystery party, and many more!
Outside of work, teams often host get-togethers, including: escape rooms, team dinners, and more.
About 25 of our Boston-based employees participate in a softball league outside of work.
Are there any fun facts about the company?
Our co-founders, Will Denslow and Brian Zitin, met as randomly assigned college roommates in 2013 at Boston University. They shared an entrepreneurial spirit and together launched several companies, including a successful real estate brokerage. As it began to take off, Will and Brian couldn’t help but notice how clunky the mortgage process was, especially the appraisal. Seeing the opportunity to drive impactful change in much needed space, they got to work. They immersed themselves in the industry, shadowed appraisers, interviewed lenders, and started building. This led to the founding of Reggora, and the mission to transform residential valuation.
Dan English, Product Enablement Manager
I joined the Reggora Product team last fall after transitioning out of the military, so I really had no idea what to expect when it came to company culture. Now that I’ve been here for over six months, I can’t imagine myself anywhere else. I’m surrounded by high-performers genuinely dedicated to their work and moving the company forward. That dedication is contagious and lifts up the entire company. Importantly, even with this high-performance, there really is a no-ego culture here; everyone is willing to roll up their sleeves and help out where needed.
Since we’re remote-first, it’s also important to me that the company knows how to be personable and have fun, too. The team does a great job with programming events that appeal to a wide audience and everyone feels comfortable being their true selves around each other. I’m excited for the coming months and years as we continue to innovate and drive change in such an important industry.
Trisha Aguinaldo, Head of QA
In the two years since I started, Reggora has gone from 20 people at the company to now over 100. I have been very fortunate to watch the company grow. We work at a quick pace with the buzz of a startup company gaining momentum. We iterate and innovate. The company has helped propel my professional growth and supported my passion in the industry.
Like many SaaS companies, we have adopted an Agile Scrum methodology at Reggora. As our number of clients grew, it was important to structure our engineering department in a way that was capable of responding to increasing numbers of client requests in a timely manner. To aid with this, our team was structured in a way of engineering sub-teams. Each "pod" consists of 4-6 full stack developers, a tech lead, a product manager, an engineering manager, and a quality assurance engineer. This allows our engineers to focus on a specific platform or workflow, keep the teams smaller and intimate, which leads to more ownership and specialty. So far, it's been highly effective.
