Where did you go to college?  What did you study and what were some of your initial jobs out of school?

I went to school at San Francisco State University and studied Sociology. Out of college I worked in Customer service, specifically as an Operations Manager and 3PL manager.

What has contributed to your success thus far and has helped propel you to the position you have now?

A lot of what has contributed to my success was having strong mentors and coaches that had my back. Another key aspect of success is believing in myself.

Can you share the high-level responsibilities of your current position as a Senior Director of Fulfillment and Production Operations at Toast?

In my current position at Toast, I oversee all fulfillment operations at the various Toast Configuration Center locations. This includes everything from the moment inventory hits our docks, to provisioning, and eventually to pick/pack & ship products out to our customers.

Any tips for someone considering a career in your field?

Collaboration is the key to productivity and having fun. In order to do that you need to be flexible, listen well, and stimulate ideas/creativity from the folks around you. It is also important to celebrate the small wins and not be afraid to try something new.

Day in the Life

Coffee, tea, or nothing?

Tea. Yorkshire Tea specifically.

What time do you get into the office?

I am usually online and working by 7:30 am, but in the office by 10:00-10:30 am.

What are three things that motivate you in your role?

  • My coworkers - Those that I work alongside each day (virtually and in-person)
  • Learning new things
  • Creativity - Thinking outside the box

Every day is different, but can you outline what a typical day looks like for you?

I check emails and respond to any needing immediate attention first thing in the morning. Around 8:00 am, I have my first meeting, with scattered meetings throughout the rest of the day. When not in meetings, I will spend time checking in with team leaders on slack and continue to answer questions that come in. Once I get to the warehouse, with my tea in hand, I list out my top 5 goals and identify the hot button issue for that day.

What time do you head out of the office?

I typically end my day between 4:00 pm - 4:30 pm.

Do you log back in at night or do you shut it down completely?

I will log back in when I need to prepare for the next day, but only for 30 minutes max.

Any productivity hacks?

  • Write down my top 5 goals for the day
  • Listening to music to zone out the noise
  • Try to avoid multitasking- focus and do well on one thing at a time

What professional accomplishment are you proudest of?

From a leadership lens, I am proud of the direct reports I’ve mentored that are now in key leadership positions. In regards to my position, I am proud of launching a new fulfillment facility in less than 45 days to support overflow operations. I’m also proud of continually improving work streams that increased shipping output by 30-35%.
