"We are hiring here at LinkSquares! We're going to spend our Series A money on hiring good people to do challenging, interesting work. We’re looking at technical fit and culture fit, based on the four aspects of our culture I mentioned previously. At the same time, we know that you’re also interviewing us. We’ll give you as much time as you need to ask questions about LinkSquares. The Rulebooks team, which I am a part of, specifies and assesses the behavior of our autonomous vehicle. What can a potential employee expect during the interview process?

"Before coming onsite (or doing a half day virtual interview), engineering candidates typically go through an online coding exercise on HackerRank, and then later spend an hour with an engineer remotely solving a coding problem. From there, successful candidates will be invited to spend a few hours on a range of problems depending on the role, such as Object Oriented Design or System Design, and talking through previous experience among potential colleagues. "

What are some of the different technologies that the engineering team gets to work with and at what scale?

"We’re building a greenfield online ordering platform based on modern architecture stack with headless leading the way. The decoupled front-end from the back-end brings a significant advantage to developers and business users alike. Most of the front-end is built on ReactJS and the back-end is built on Java Springboot. This microservices architecture leveraging BFF design pattern allows the site to scale without sacrificing performance."

"We have a standard technical interview process that is made up of both technical questions and non-technical, behavioral questions. We like whiteboarding for our technical questions and we try to mix it up with some other types of questions as well. Given the recent move to remote interviews, we’ve been utilizing interactive solutions like Coderpad, Google Hangouts, Zoom, and Mural."

Every year during Intersection Gives Back Day, engineers volunteer their time to visit non-profit bootcamps for underrepresented populations to conduct mock interviews, coding challenges, and offer constructive feedback and support. We set aside 10% time for engineers to explore new, creative projects and ideas that can benefit them, the team, and the company. This could range from anything educational, taking courses to pursuing creative passions that can support and benefit our personal, professional, and career growth."

"A JRNI engineer is typically a ‘T-Shaped person’ with a range of knowledge and experience that means they are able to work alongside all technical roles in the company; providing insight and assistance to teams ranging from Development and implementation, through to sales and support. Being an engineer at JRNI is a vastly rewarding and social job, often the first port of call for people within JRNI who are looking for a solution, and has great visibility of the wider business goals. 

Within the team, a flat structure and bottom up management style is adopted. While the team leads will always hold a final decision, the whole team is always invited to fully explore ideas and contribute to everything that is going on within the department. Many additions to the team roadmap come from team discussion and retrospective."
