What is it like to work at your company in terms of your culture?

Fitbit’s culture is fastpaced, ambitious, and social all at the same time. Our Boston office has a very startup feel, while being a part of a much larger picture. We strive to hire the best people and trust them to get things done. Everyone in the office is passionate about the health and wellness space and how we can continue to improve our customer’s experience and our technology.

While we like to keep a hardworking and fun environment, we also like to make sure that people feel comfortable having a life outside of the office and take advantage of their free time. There’s no dress code, there’s always plenty of food and with our brand new office space in the Seaport there’s plenty of room for everyone to get together for our catered lunches and Friday happy hours!

What’s the best way to get a job at Fitbit?

There are various ways to get a job at Fitbit. The most direct way is to visit Fitbit’s careers page to find all of our openings in our Boston office. Our careers page is www.fitbit.com/jobs. Or, you can visit our BIZZpage on VentureFizz:  http://venturefizz.com/fitbit.

We also have very prominent engineers in the Boston Tech community. Our engineers are active members of Meetups such as React.JS Boston and speakers at large technical conferences such as the i360Dev conference. Networking with our engineers at these events is a fun and effective way to get your foot in the door at Fitbit.

Lastly, Fitbit’s recruiting team is very active in promoting Fitbit’s presence in Boston. We are consistently running events to get Fitbit on the Boston Tech Map. We recently gave out free smoothies in Kendall Square, fueled Fort Point with free coffee, and held an open house to show off our beautiful new office space in the Seaport District! Our recruiters are a fun and easygoing bunch so make sure to introduce yourself to them at these future events. It will go a long way!

What can someone expect during the interview process?

The interview process is a very seamless but technically challenging process. It first starts off with a phone screen with a recruiter. Next, you would have an hour long phone interview with a seniorlevel engineer or manager. After that, there is a technical onsite interview that typically last half a day. This is the most common interview process but it can change depending on the group or the level of the role. Other steps could involve a take home coding challenge or an interview in San Francisco to meet stakeholders and engineers there.

What can people expect over the course of their career at Fitbit?

We are still in high growth mode – so you can expect things to never stay stagnant. As Fitbit continues to push as the leader in the market, you will be focused on new projects and ideas for the company. You will be treated with respect and your thoughts will be highly valued. Since the organization is still relatively flat there is plenty of room to grow into leadership if that’s what you wish for. The best part about a career at Fitbit is that there isn’t always a specific path because you have the opportunity to forge your own career trajectory.

Are there any favorite activities that the employees do outside of the office?

It may not come as a surprise to many that quite a few of our employees like to stay active. We have ultimate Frisbee enthusiasts, triathletes, crossfitters, runners, walkers, bikers, hikers, weight lifters, personal trainers, yogis, dancers and everything in between! We are a true melting pot of people with different interests who genuinely enjoy each other’s company. After work it is not uncommon to see some of our employees going to check out a new restaurant, at a meetup with their team, playing in a kickball league together, or attending one of our employee planned events like board game night.

Are there any fun facts or unique stories that you can share about Fitbit or individuals that work there?

At Fitbit we have a super diverse crowd. Some individuals are drawn to us because of the fitness/activity aspect of Fitbit and others because of the cutting edge technology in the emerging wearables space. In the mix we have an elite marathon runner, professional sailor, theater lover, animal enthusiasts, board game collector, and former member of the USAR. Our Senior Engineering Manager actually lives on a farm and keeps bees – sometimes he brings in honey!

What TV show or movie would best describe the working environment and employees at Fitbit?

Step by Step!

Do you have any unique benefits or perks?

On day one you are greeted with a bag of swag and a Fitbit device of your choice! On top of that, Fitbit employees get the opportunity to beta test new products before they are released and receive discounts on all Fitbit products.

We have monthlong, companywide, step challenges with prizes that include an onsite massage therapist for the winning team, as well as being able to donate money to your charity of choice. Our desks are made for both standing and sitting, and if you don’t want to stay at your desk you can find a comfy spot on our couches, or head outside for a walking meeting along the waterfront. On work out Wednesdays we have in office yoga and everyone is encouraged to wear their favorite workout gear. In addition, we have a free gym onsite and all employees receive a monthly wellness stipend to spend on anything that has to do with staying active.

We also have catered lunches twice a week, happy hour every Friday afternoon, and team outings every quarter. The team here has gone skiing at Waterville Valley, picnicked at George’s island, and is looking forward to this year’s holiday party at the Boston Aquarium

What’s on tap or in your fridge?

We have a wide selection of craft beer and wine delivered every Friday. Cold Brew and Kombucha are always on tap and our shelves are stocked with so many snacks. Office favorites are short bread cookie squares, fruit jerky, and peanut butter pretzels.
