As a Team Lead Engineer, you will have a lead role in building dynamic web applications and services, help implement complex data and API integrations, and drive the conception-to-design-to-implementation product development process. You will be responsible for leading a small team of engineers to achieve specific long-term objectives for one of our products or initiatives through a combination of coding, architecture/design and mentoring.

As a Team Lead Engineer, you will inspire and guide your team to reach lofty and amazing goals through coaching and your proven ability to collaborate with product owners, senior executives and other engineers. As an integral member of our Engineering group, you will be asked to create, contribute to, and own pieces of our software development platform and ecosystem. Just as important, we are looking for someone who wants to be in a startup, has tremendous communication skills, and is motivated and a self-starter. You will help mold bright young engineers into skilled technical peers.

You are expected to take on and own vital initiatives and duties for the company, spark and lead discussion, and help establish the company’s technical direction while providing timely and quality support and education across the organization. This is a tremendous opportunity to build the engineering foundation of the company.

 

In this role, you will:

  • Coding and Implementation (40-50%) -- Direct, hands-to-keyboard programming using existing and new tools and languages in order to deliver product requirements, build prototypes, and enhance features;
  • Architecture and Design (25-35%) -- Lead design and code reviews, evaluate new technologies and define best practices and technical guidelines for the team;
  • Coaching and Mentorship (25%) -- Advise and guide the members of your team (2-3 software engineers) to meet personal and team objectives through regular check-ins, feedback sessions and coaching. Serve as a technical thought partner by actively questioning and reflecting during the design and implementation process. Set up the members of your team for success. Help recruit, build and support amazing engineers.

 

About you:

  • At least 8-10 years of technical expertise, including recent engineering experience with high-performance, enterprise-facing websites and/or SaaS platforms.
  • Demonstrated success leading, recruiting and managing a small team in a rapidly-changing, collaborative, and iterative product development environment.
  • Values clean and elegant but pragmatic and effective software design in order to meet deadlines with high-quality software.
  • Experience working within an Agile organization (scrum, “lean”, etc.)
  • BS in Computer Science or equivalent degree.
  • Very strong communication skills; ability to communicate clearly both orally and verbally to audiences of varying technical knowledge. Comfortable in front of a whiteboard and discussing both high level architecture and as well as coding/algorithms.

We are looking for a Senior QA Manager to join our Engineering team. In this role, you will ensure that quality is built in to Ellevation’s software development lifecycle, through the application of QA testing best practices, the implementation of testing automation tools and technologies, and advocacy for a delightful user experience. Using your expertise in leadership, you will coach and develop a team of A players to enable the continued growth of our Software Engineering team. You will be a key liaison to internal customers by combining domain knowledge with your understanding of workflows and processes in order to bring a unique perspective to software quality, performance and usability. If you are interested in joining a mission-driven organization and are eager to take on challenges of scale in a rapid-growth environment, then we would like to hear from you. 

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Define QA testing and test automation coding best practices, including technology/tool selection, oversight of their implementation, and promote continuous improvement with regular review of team work deliverables.
  • Recruit, hire and grow an outstanding team of QA Engineers and Software Test Engineers. Manage a team of up to 6-8 direct reports (QA Engineers and Software Test Engineers).
  • Provide thought leadership to all of DevPro in all areas of software quality, including the release/deployment process and internal and production environments. Identify key metrics and practices that result in our ability to release quickly and with high confidence.
  • Scale automated testing in a continuous integration environment. Define and evolve our testing strategy in service of team and company objectives.
  • 10-20% direct hands-to-keyboard contributions in coding, via PoC’s or prototypes, pair programming, or implementation of new tools/technologies

 

About you:

  • Have mastery of both manual/exploratory QA best practices as well as significant leadership in testing automation development and architecture. Previous experience in or strong aspirations to growing and leading a team. Ideally, you are someone who has "done this before" and built or scaled a QA and Test Engineering team from 2 to 10 at a SaaS, technology product-based and high-growth company.
  • Ability to “roll up sleeves” and get involved -- i.e. player-coach. Excited at the prospects of seeing your team grow and succeed.
  • Excellent multi-tasker and strong ability to effect change, influence, and collaborate both within a technical team and also with external stakeholders.
  • Have, or have recently had, significant hands-on test automation development experience writing code using tools and technologies from the below list:
    • Hands-on experience with Selenium, Web Driver, Robot Framework, SpecFlow, or similar framework in a Microsoft .NET environment
    • Hands-on experience with Protractor, Jasmine or other Javascript frameworks used for testing dynamic web applications
    • Experience with jMeter or similar load testing tools
    • Experience building and scaling test automation for C#/ASP.NET MVC web applications
    • Experience querying relational databases (SQL Server, Oracle)
    • Experience delivering software in an agile, CI-based environment (Jenkins, etc.)
    • Experience with SaaS products or public cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, etc.) is a plus
    • Command of O-O principles and software design patterns and practices (SOLID, DRY)

A significant component of the success of Ellevation’s products is the effective movement of data from external sources into the Ellevation platform. Ellevation is seeking an experienced Back-End Engineer who can bring great problem-solving skills to bear in order to address the challenge of transforming, validating and loading many heterogeneous data sets at scale.

 

Responsibilities:

  • 65% hands-to-keyboard coding as member of Infrastructure-Core team, designing, implementing and deploying essential services, components and libraries in C#, Python and SQL that comprise Ellevation’s data and third-party integration capabilities.
  • 20% architecture, mentoring, solution design and definition of best practices for Ellevation’s Python-based data transformation pipelines.
  • 15% prototyping, evaluating of new technologies, and data analytics.

 

About You:

  • Experience with enterprise integration patterns and architecture, including consuming JSON/REST web service APIs
  • Experience with OAuth, OpenID, SAML and other SSO technologies
  • Strong O-O programming knowledge (SOLID, DRY)
  • Experience with basic data ETL processes, data normalization and validation principles (not big data or data science/analytics)

Support Specialists are Ellevation product experts who listen, teach, communicate, problem-solve, and think critically. Frequently serving as the first line of contact, they assist users every step of the way. From evaluating data files to analyzing trends and feedback from our partners, the work of the Product Support Specialists translates into real value for thousands of users and Ellevation at large.

Working hand-in-glove with a Product Team, you will provide a consistent, intuitive user experience to all of Ellevation’s products that will simplify training, improve product mastery and user confidence, and reduce demands on user and partner support.  

In this role, you will:

  • Build and document re-usable Javascript components. Help define front-end technology, best practices and UX vision;
  • Re-engineer Javascript code from Angular 1.x/KnockoutJS to SPA with Aurelia/Redux;
  • Own and maintain internal UI component libraries and style guides;
  • Collaborate with Product Managers, UX Designers and Engineers to develop elegant, reusable design components for all Ellevation products;
  • Collaborate frequently in Engineering design reviews, pair programming and code reviews

 

About you:

  • Comfortable working with wireframes and lower-fidelity mockups. You have a UX background and will be able to intuitively understand our users.

With an increasing number of small, agile product teams, Ellevation has a need for a Product Manager to lead the efforts around discovery, validation, definition, and release of products and features that help Ellevation meet its goals.  Through your work and deep understanding of the customer, you will advocate for solutions that address customer challenges in a way that has the widest impact across our user base, and expands our market while reducing internal inefficiencies.  You will devise, validate, and shepherd through development solutions that customers didn't know were possible.  By focusing on digital tools that drive instructional change in schools, the PM will devise technology solutions to age-old challenges educators face in becoming better instructors, and collaboratively improving student outcomes.

You Will:

  • Lead the product team’s discovery and definition process, with direct impact on - and accountability to - quarterly OKRs. Discovery sprints, user and usage research, mockups, and user validation testing are all expected as part of product feature development.
  • Work closely and daily with engineers to divide and sequence work into milestones, write user stories to define the work, and provide ongoing definition and iterative adjustments with engineers as needed.
  • Oversee the product team’s Agile process. Manage, curate, and prioritize project and defect backlogs. Attend - and often lead - daily standups. Facilitate sprint planning. Lead sprint presentations to internal stakeholders.
  • Own and be accountable to product metrics for your team. Ensure that feature work is informed by usage and market data. Set aggressive usage and engagement metrics tied to company OKRs. Own the reporting of metrics post-launch and ensure they are used to inform future enhancements.
  • Evangelize internally and externally. Ensure internal teams are informed of your team’s work, and understand - completely - the value it provides to customers. Provide use cases, validation data, and reference customers to Marketing.

About You:

  • Product Manager: Must have prior experience as a product manager in either a B2B, B2G, or EdTech SaaS company. Must have experience in an educational product company (Preferably K-12).  Looking for candidates with a desire to work with educators as end-users.
  • Communication: Extremely strong communicator. Must be able to speak with (and write for) technical audiences, non-technical users across multiple personas, and business stakeholders. Strong ability to listen to multiple sources of information, find commonalities, and synthesize multiple solutions. Problem-solving, and a willingness to be proven wrong (and prove others wrong) is a must.

  • Technical Background: Proficiency with data sets and data models. Understand how data is stored, sorted, filtered, and visualized. Proficiency with mockup/prototyping tools (ie: Balsamiq, Sketch, InVision, OmniGraffle). Experience with project management software (Jira, Fogbugz, Prodpad, Trello, etc). Strong ability to make decisions based on evidence, explain them to others, and be held accountable to their decisions.

  • Interpersonal Skills: Knowing the strings to pull, the buttons to push, and when to say yes or no, in order to get work effectively with different personality types. Ability to actively listen to customers with low technical knowledge, and sympathize with challenges while still ensuring important input is gathered in inform product design. Ability to juggle multiple priorities from others: handling multiple requests with ease, keeping a cool head, updating those who need to know, and facilitating effective group conversations
  • Leader: Ability to “manage up” and garner buy in and advocacy from stakeholders among company leadership.
