Meet The Team
We’re a scrappy crew that learns something new everyday. We wear a lot of hats and are always ready to ship it. We’re jokers, we’re challengers, we’re explorers, but humble is how we roll.
The Drift Vibe
Welcome to Drift! Step off the elevator in our Back Bay office and you'll be greeted by floor-to-ceiling graffiti art by Percy Fortini Wright. Our founder grew up in Queens and has always found beauty in what graffiti represents and how personal and expressive it is.
We love that our space really shows off Drift’s personality -- there is a lot to talk about and interact with in the office. For example, we have live plants and fun art all over the office, large murals with quotes from people who inspire us, like Charlie Munger and Sara Blakely and our lobby is filled with books that have influenced us as people and as a company.
We occupy the 6th and 7th floors in 222 Berkeley Street in the Back Bay. The building is also home to other notable Boston companies like DraftKings and Wayfair. We expanded to the 7th floor in June 2019 in order to keep up with our growth and built a staircase connecting the two floors.
All of our conference rooms at Drift are named after people who inspire us -- from business leaders like Charlie Munger and Jeff Bezos, to artists like Jay-Z and Aretha Franklin to some of our first customers, like Price Intelligently. "Bezos" has a great view of the Back Bay!
Our open office floor plan allows for collaboration among teams and idea sharing throughout the day.
Our Boston office features a number of murals and inspirational quotes. Sara Balakely of Spanx spoke at our most recent HYPERGROWTH event in Boston and we often draw inspiration from her entrepunerial mindset.
One of our Leadership Principles at Drift is to be "a curious learning machine." That is why the company offers a "Drift Book Club" perk, where employees can order a book a month on Drift and it will be delivered to the office (or your Kindle). Books can then be left on our communal book shelves to share with colleagues, donated to More Than Words through our partnership with them, or kept in your own personal library. We also stock books in the reception area and in conference rooms and encourage guests to help themselves.
Even though we have an open office, we also wanted to ensure that there are plenty of comfortable places for people to meet, collaborate or just put their head down and get work done.
When decorating the office, the goal was to ensure it didn’t look like just another tech startup. We tried to make the lobby a 5-star hotel experience, with inviting chairs and couches, swag and books that matter to us. We stayed away from too-bright colors and instead gravitated towards softer tones and materials. Our open layout ensures that communication flows, people from different teams cross-mingle and there are plenty of spaces to collaborate and work together.
Our founders, David Cancel and Elias Torres, strongly believe that a company is 99.9% about the people--the team, the customer, the users. So when designing our space, that was a huge consideration. We wanted it to be really collaborative and comfortable -- so that anyone who comes in, be it someone from Drift or a customer, feels welcome and at home.
Unique workspaces like our swinging chairs make it easy to get up from your desk and explore a new part of the office.
We record a number of podcasts for our HYPERGROWTH Podcast Network in the office and have a dedicated podcast studio where we produce them. Be sure to check them out if you want to learn more about conversational marketing or what it is like to work at hypergrowth company!
The "Backyard" is an employee favorite, because it is where we all get together as a team at the beginning and end of each week to share our goals and our work. That’s also where we’ve been known to host happy hours, new employee parties and movie nights--and throughout the day you can find people meeting as a team, presenting different ideas and more.
There are lots of great places in the Back Bay that are employee favorites, like Tatte and Life Alive, but the Drift office is also fully stocked with snacks and beverages to keep everyone going throughout the day. We also have lunch brought into the office daily.
We have over 300 employees company-wide and the majority of those employees sit in our Boston office. We also have offices in San Francisco, Seattle, and just opened a Tampa office.
Our height adjustable standing desks allow employees to choose whether they'd like to sit or stretch their legs throughout the day.
Every Friday we gather for an all company meeting we call Show & Tell (pictured here), an all-company meeting where a representative from each team presents something they’ve worked on, with the goal of sharing how this impacts our customers. We also come together on Monday mornings for Monday Metrics, an all-company meeting where we reflect on the previous week’s progress and align on our goals for the week. We also share positive customer feedback and inspirations for the coming week.
This practice of bookending the week with Monday Metrics and Show & Tell is important because it allows us to answer the questions “How did we do?” and then “What did we actually make?” It also engages all employees and keeps with our tradition of being transparent and open in everything we do.
We are hiring for a number of roles in Boston right now so be sure to check out www.venturefizz.com/drift to learn more.
