The Boston tech scene is no stranger to creative digital marketing agencies. Located off of the Coolidge Corner stop on the Green Line, 829 Studios is offering their clients carefully crafted marketing solutions and products.

With a focus on innovation in marketing, an agency such as 829 Studios can sound appealing to anyone who is itching to work in digital marketing.

VentureFizz connected with 829 Studios’ Director of Marketing Jason Bornfriend to talk about the company’s day-to-day operations, as well as learn more about what the culture is like for a digital marketing agency. Along with learning who some of their clients are, we had a chance to hear about the company’s annual retreats. Check out our interview with Bornfriend below!

Can you share the details of what 829 Studios does?

We’re a Boston-based team of innovative, creative and passionate individuals who love to get things done. Together we craft marketing solutions and digital products that convey messages, drive results and set our partners apart. The combination of form with function, design with development and message with measurability is the foundation of our meticulously integrated agency.

Who are some of your customers?  Any particular industry that 829 Studios caters to?

We have a diverse client roster ranging from small family businesses to publicly traded companies.  We’ve also been lucky enough to work with a few amazing tour operators (O.A.R.S., Micato Safaris, Arizona Outback Adventures).  In fact, five team members just got back from a week-long tour in Havasupai last week!

What is your process when creating and developing marketing strategies and solutions for your customers?

We start by defining what success looks like and/or what specific problems we’re looking to overcome.  We’ll often ask clients where they want to see the business in a year or five years and then work backward as we decide what strategies are needed.

What kinds of software and tools does your team use at 829 Studios?

We employ a variety of sophisticated tools behind the scenes but prefer to interact with clients in-person.

What are your company’s core values or how would you best describe the culture and working environment at 829 Studios?

Culture is incredibly important at 829. We want people to love coming to work. We’re uniquely comprised of travelers, gamers, friends, adventurers, pet lovers, tea drinkers, sports fans, and more.

From a big picture point of view, what experience or traits do you typically look for when interviewing and hiring new employees into 829 Studios?

We seek out talented, friendly individuals who want to do meaningful work. We celebrate unique perspectives and are always striving to be better. We’re only as good as our team!

What’s the best way to get a job at 829 Studios?

Apply! We’re always accepting applications even if we don’t have a job listing.

What can someone expect during the interview process?

Expect to not only talk about past experiences but who you are as a person. Culture is as important to us as experience.

What can people expect over the course of their career at 829 Studios?

Team members can expect to be challenged and faced with new opportunities every day. We love hearing about new ideas and implementing them. We hope to help our team members grow as individuals personally and in their career.

What types of activities are employees involved in at or outside the office?

There is always something fun happening! We love that people in our office are friends outside of work too. We have groups who go to salsa dancing, movie nights, social sports events, happy hours and more.

Share one or more random fun facts…

Last year we took most of the office on a week-long trip down the Salmon River with O.A.R.S. and next year we’ll be bringing most of the team on a week-long trip to the Grand Canyon. One of the perks of working for adventure travel clients is that we get invited on incredible trips!

Employee Testimonials

"Working at 829 has been an incredible experience. I’ve been fortunate enough to see the company grow and grow alongside it. Every day is a different day and I’m certainly never bored. I’ve gotten to shoot 360 tours through whitewater rapids, fly drones off sailboats in the Caribbean, hike into the Grand Canyon, but most importantly I’ve been able to help companies grow and become successful. I love hearing about the impact that we have had on other people’s lives."
