MD Chairman & CEO
Ido serves as the Chairman and CEO of American Well Corporation and oversees the company's corporate strategy. Ido has a lengthy track record of successfully leading technology companies in the healthcare field. In 1996, together with Phyllis Gotlib, he co-founded iMDSoft, a provider of enterprise software that automates hospital critical care units. He grew the company into a market leader with a large multi-national install base in the U.S., Europe, and East Asia. In 2001, Ido joined CareKey Inc. as Chief Executive Officer and took the company through its acquisition by the TriZetto group. Ido served as TriZetto's Chief Business Strategy Officer until his departure in the summer of 2006. Ido continues to serve as the chairman of iMDSoft's scientific advisory board. Ido received his MD from the Sackler School of Medicine.
Roy Schoenberg, MD, MPH
President & CEO
Roy is co-founder and CEO at American Well where he introduced the patented service brokerage technology that today powers the nation’s largest Telehealth network. Prior to American Well, Roy was president and founder of CareKey and continued to serve as Chief Internet solutions officer at TriZetto, following its acquisition of CareKey. In 2013, Roy was appointed to the US Federation of Medical Board's task force delivering landmark guidelines for the "Appropriate use of Telehealth in Medical Practice". Roy is the 2014 recipient of the American Telemedicine Association Industry award for leadership in the field of Telemedicine. He is an avid author and speaker in the areas of healthcare technology and national Health IT policy. Roy serves on the board of the ATA, holds an MD from Hebrew University and an MPH from Harvard.

What is it like to work at American Well in terms of your culture?
At American Well we’re working to change the way health care is delivered through telehealth. Telehealth – the ability to see your doctor on your phone or desktop computer – is a major paradigm shift for consumers and doctors, and as a result, we’re working hard to answer questions and solve problems that have never been addressed before. Everyone is very passionate about their individual contributions as well as what we’re doing together as a company to help shape the future of care delivery, which makes it an inspiring place to be. It’s really exciting but also a lot of work so as you can imagine our culture is about being smart, fast, efficient, and collaborative. You feel like your work matters and you’re excited to come to work because of it.
On the flip side, it’s not a cultural fit for people who want to clock in, clock out and get paid, or need a week to make a decision.
What’s the best way to get a job at American Well?
There are so many opportunities to have an impact at American Well, because we work in an emerging market and are creating new jobs and opportunities all the time. Many people have come to American Well in one department or role and then, of their own determination and skill set, migrated into other departments and roles. So really the best way to get a job is to identify a position that fits your experience, but also be honest and upfront about your skills set, experience and interests, as there may be a great opportunity for you here that you did not immediately identify with from a posted position.
What can someone expect during the interview process?
The interview process for each position is unique to that position and department in terms of how many people you might meet, and whether there are additional requirements like submitting a writing sample. However, interviews here usually consist of an initial phone or FaceTime/Skype interview, followed by in-person interviews, when possible, with the team with whom you’d work day-to-day. We run a pretty efficient interview process here – in part because we’re growing fast, and because we know that hiring the right people is essential to our continued success – so you’re likely to hear from us on next steps pretty quickly.
What can people expect over the course of their career at American Well?
At American Well we pride ourselves on investing in our people and promoting from within. At the end of the day we’re all working hand-in-hand to achieve our mission to change the way care is delivered, and so we want to keep the people who have contributed to our mission and make them feel like they’re learning and growing, too. Because we’re a culture of driven high achievers, we know first-hand that sometimes staying at a company means having opportunities to try on new “hats” and take on new roles. Many American Well team members have moved into different departments and roles over the course of their career, and found satisfaction taking on new challenges, expanding their skills sets, or working with different team members. It’s pretty exciting to think that you could have a second career at the same company, if that appeals to you.
Are there any favorite activities that the employees do outside of the office?
American Well is headquartered at 75 State Street in the Financial District, making us centrally located to great bars and restaurants, and steps away from Faneuil Hall and the new Boston Public Market. We tend to have outings after work together and as a health tech company, many of our employees enjoy an active lifestyle outside of work – recently some of our team members ran the New York City marathon. As a company we have an annual holiday party in addition to other leadership development and social initiatives.
Are there any fun facts or unique stories that you can share about American Well or individuals that work there?
Wow – probably too many to mention. We’re not a boring group. Our Chief Marketing Officer is a published author. One of our VPs teaches aerial sports on the weekend. We have former triathletes, avid swing dancers, part-time professional photographers and yoga instructors, Boy Scout troop leaders, all on our team of 200-plus employees. That’s just a sampling but we’re a pretty dynamic team here that has many passions outside of work.
As for unique stories – our Chief Executive Officers, Drs. Roy and Ido Schoenberg are pretty inspiring. Both grew up just outside of Jerusalem and served in the Israeli military. Roy received his medical training prior to service and was a combat physician; Ido served before attending medical school. Together they founded two other technology companies before starting American Well.

We keep a strong supply of snacks and soft drinks. Flavored seltzers, waters, soda, coffee, tea, chips, cookies, fruit twists, nuts, fruit. But frankly there are so many great dining options around our building it is hard not to step outside and take advantage of that, too.
