WebInno42



Web Innovators Group
(aka "WebInno") was started by David Beisel of NextView Ventures as an informal gathering of a dozen people in 2005.  Today, their events draw nearly 1,000 people from Boston and beyond!

With WebInno42 coming on Monday June 16th, we thought it would be fun to take a look at some of the notable alumni who have pitched at WebInno at an early stage.
 

Dropbox



Dropbox ... yes Dropbox.  You know that "little" 
free file hosting service that allows users to share and access photos, documents and videos anywhere. 

Drew Houston demo'ed his product at WebInno back in March of 2007.

Since then, they have raised $1.1B and acquired 15 companies.
 

Birchbox



Launched in 2010 by two HBS grads, Birchbox paved the way for other subscription based businesses.  The success of their cosmetic samples business has grown beyond eCommerce and now into their own retail stores.

Birchbox was a WebInno Side Dish Demo in June 2010. They just announced a $60M Series B round of funding and to date, they have raised $71.90M.
 

Reddit




Founded in 2005 by Alexis Ohanian & Steve Huffman, Reddit is a popular social website that displays news based on your personal preferences and what the community likes.

They demo'ed their product back in January 2006 at WebInno. Reddit was acquired by Conde Nast in October ‘06.
 

The Echo Nest




Founded by two MIT PhDs, The Echo Nest is a music intelligence platform company that provides music services to developers and media companies.

The Echo Nest was a WebInno Main Dish Demo in September 2006. They were acquired by Spotify in March ‘14
 

FlipKey



FlipKey is a vacation rental marketplace that enables users to find and book a place to stay through its web platform.

FlipKey was a Main Dish Demo at WebInno in November 2007. They were acquired by TripAdvisor in August ‘08
 

RunKeeper



RunKeeper is the largest and most global mobile fitness platform, with over 30M users and it is integrated with 100+ 3rd party devices & services.

RunKeeper was a Side Dish Demo at WebInno back in September 2008. To date, they have raise $11.51M.
 

Fiksu




Fiksu
 (originally called Fluent Mobile) is a mobile app marketing platform that helps brands grow a loyal customer base.

They were a Side Dish Demo at WebInno back in July 2009. To date, they have raised $16.70M.
 

Localytics




Localytics
is an analytics and marketing platform for mobile and web apps.  They were part of the first class of Techstars in Boston.

Localytics was a Side Dish Demo at WebInno back in July 2009. To date, they have raised $24.80M.
 

thredUP




thredUP
 was originally based in Boston with two of the co-founders from HBS.  They started out with a Netflix business model for children's clothing but are now an online consignment shop for buying & selling quality used women's and children's clothing.

They were a Main Dish Demo at WebInno back in December 2009. To date, thredUP has raised $23.10M.
 

Yesware




Yesware
is an email tracking system that enables sales people to gather and use customer information.

They were a Main Dish Demo at WebInno back in September 2011. To date, Yesware has raised $19.70M.
 

CustomMade




CustomMade
is an online marketplace connecting buyers who want one-of-a-kind creations with people who make those goods.

They were a Side Dish Demo at WebInno back in September 2010. To date, CustomMade has raised $25.70M.
 

Tikatok





Tikatok
is an online community enabling children to write, illustrate and publish their own stories into real books.

They were a Side Dish Demo at WebInno back in July 2008. Tikatok was acquired by Barnes & Noble in September ’09.
