Boston Companies Raising Money on AngelList
The JOBS Act now allows companies to openly seek out investments (as opposed to the little cat and mouse game that existed between VCs and startups before). One new trend that we are beginning to see with the new opportunity is with startups seeking crowd-funded angel investments.
In particular, there is a ton of buzz surrounding AngelList and their new "Syndicate" product.
Here are 10 Boston (either locally based or connected to an incubator/accelerator) companies that have popped up on AngelList's public funding site.
Tomorrowish, the "social media DVR", is looking to raise $1.5M on AngelList. The company's product displays social media comments synchronized to video of an event, such as a TV show, and captures the social media chatter for the program.
Planetary Emissions Management
Planetary Emisions Management is seeking $1M on AngelList's public funding page. The company has created a tool to measure carbon emissions thus allowing the creation of carbon credits. PEM has "the technology and applications to make CO2 emissions a tangible entity for management of atmospheric composition and monetization to financial markets."
Sookbox, the media control system, is seeking $1M in funding on AngelList. The company's product can manage music, video, and apps on any television/speaker system/etc. through its innovative mobile app. Sookbox has already achieved some success in their public fundraising campaign on AngelList.
ViralGains is also seeking $1M on AngelList. The company, a MassChallenge finalist, has created a video marketing platform to connect consumers and advertisers.
Wakuu, the company that delivers curated meals, is seeking $1M on AngelList. Currently in beta, Wakuu is a "proprietary recommendation engine [that] helps match your taste to new recipes, along with exclusive alcohol pairings to best accompany your recipe."
CastleOS is looking to raise $500K on AngelList. The company has created a home automation and energy saving platform. CastleOS also boasts that it is the world's first "whole-house voice control system."
Hundo, based in Providence, is seeking $800K in public fundraising on AngelList. The company has created an e-commerce mobile product that can find the highest "rated" goods by location.
imageSurge is trying to raise $500K on AngelList for its unique window-shopping technology. The company has created interactive storefront displays that uses advanced touch-screen technology.
Splitzee, the group-purchase solution and e-commerce company, is seeking an undisclosed amount of money in public funding.
There are about fourteen more local startups that are on AngelList's current list of Boston-based companies seeking public funding. Many of these companies haven't disclosed how much money they are going to be raising. They include, ServiceRoute, ReferralBonus, CloudMaker, Bon'App (which has already reached its initial fundraising goal), Black House, Sunrise Group, Shareist, InspireMed Solutions, Thyrst, Garagesocial, Twin Focus Capital Partners, and more.
