Meet Our Management Team

Michael C. Bird
Chief Executive Officer

Michael has over 20 years building high performance organizations across the electronic publishing and social media industries. Prior to NetProspex, Michael was the SVP of Sales and Business Development and a member of the executive team at the social media and engagement marketing pioneer, BzzAgent.

Previously, Michael was the VP of Global Solutions at CNET where he launched the highly successful International Network Sales division across 15 countries throughout EMEA and Asia. While at CNET he also lead all sales and business intelligence for the B2B media network that included ZDNet TechRepublic and BNet. Michael was also a founding member of the venture accelerator, Stonepath Group and spent the early part of his career in roles of increasing responsibility at Ziff-Davis media.

Michael is a frequent speaker at industry conferences, quoted often in the business press and has been a regular guest on multiple Fox Business News programs.

Thomas Rauker
Chief Financial Officer

Tom is a veteran with 27 years of finance in technology and high-growth online ventures. Prior to NetProspex, Tom served for two years as a strategic financial consultant for Dow Jones & Company following the May 2008 acquisition of Generate, Inc. where he served as CFO since 2005.

Throughout his career, Tom has assisted clients in raising over $100 million in debt and equity funding, and has successfully negotiated multi-million dollar strategic contracts with Lycos, CNet, D&B and Dow Jones, among others. Tom began his career at Deloitte.

Jeff Clewley
Co-Founder and Chief Data Scientist

Jeff Clewley has 20 years of experience in online publishing. Prior to founding NetProspex, he was Chief Technology Officer of Fair Disclosure Financial Research, a Warburg Pincus portfolio company, where he developed the world's first real-time transcription service for corporate earning calls.

Jeff has also held several senior technical roles at Thomson/Reuters. Jeff has a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Vermont and lives and in Maine with his wife and three children.

Chief Technology Officer

As Chief Technology Officer at NetProspex, Mike oversees Application Development, Database Operations, QA, and IT Infrastructure. He brings over thirteen years of technology executive management and twenty years of data experience to the team.

Prior to joining NetProspex, Mike was VP of Technology for Generate, Inc. (acquired by Dow Jones). After Generate’s acquisition by Dow Jones, Mike led the migration of Generate’s technology to the Dow Jones platform. Derek Slayton
Chief Marketing Officer

Derek Slayton is a B2B marketer and a product guy with over 20 years of experience in technology sales and marketing. As CMO his role is to align the company’s product roadmap with its go-to-market engine and create relationships with other B2B marketers that want to improve their revenue engines through better, more targeted, and continuously managed marketing data.

Prior to coming to NetProspex, Derek was vice president of marketing at VMTurbo, a provider of software-defined control for cloud and virtualized environments. During his tenure, Slayton generated a five times increase in lead generation and the company grew revenue by more than 400 percent. Prior to VMTurbo, Derek was the senior director of product marketing and management at Citrix Systems where he drove the product direction, positioning and go-to-market strategies for the XenServer virtualization platform and cloud management solutions.

Before joining Citrix, Slayton ran marketing for Reflectent Software, an application performance management solution acquired by Citrix in May, 2006 and headed up worldwide channel marketing for Enterasys Networks. Prior to his tenure at Enterasys, Slayton was responsible for the ProductSource offering at OrderTrust where he had profit & loss and product management responsibilities in bringing to market the company's software-as-a-service offering for e-commerce retailers.

Brian Serino
SVP Sales & Business Development

Brian Serino has more than 20 years of technology sales experience with the proven ability to build and manage teams that exceed goals and drive profitability. Prior to joining NetProspex, Serino was responsible for increasing revenue and market share for marketing technology provider Neolane.

Formerly at Unica for eight years, Serino served in multiple senior sales management positions that included Vice President Sales for the Eastern U.S. and Vice President, North America Sales. While with the company, he doubled the size of the sales team, drove a ten-fold increase in revenue, and supported the company’s successful IPO and eventual acquisition by IBM.

As Vice President of North America Sales at Entigo, Serino was instrumental in reengineering the company to become more product-centric while initiating the development of the sales force and consulting organization and developing key channel partnerships. Earlier in his career, Serino also held senior sales leadership positions at Vitria Technology and Bay State Computer.

Brian is an avid skier and enjoys all outdoor activities in the white mountains.

Jim Becker
SVP Content

Jimmy Becker is a data guy. Prior to NetPrsopex, Jimmy was VP of Sales for Digital Trowel, a start-up company focused on web-based information extraction.

During his career Jimmy has held senior positions at Dun and Bradstreet focusing on third party licensing and as VP of product management for Dow Jones, focusing on the web-based extraction of company and executive information. Jimmy co- founded OneSource Information Services which culminated in a successful IPO.

Jimmy holds a BA in Economics from Brown University and an MBA from the Yale School of Management.

Jacqui MacCarthy
Vice President Operations

Prior to joining NetProspex Jacqui’s worked in sales and product management roles for Thomson Reuters. She began her career as a financial analyst at Time Life Books (London and Amsterdam) before spending 4 years working in the Far East as a banking analyst and English teacher as well as traveling extensively with a backpack.

Jacqui has a BA in Business from the College for Distributive Trades (London).

Ellyn Colwell
Vice President of Business Development

Ellyn is responsible for the distribution of NetProspex data through channel partners. Ellyn spent 6 years with Thomson Financial, specifically with First Call and Thomson Intelligence, providing financial data to the corporate marketplace. She continued from Thomson to Lycos Ecommerce Business Development Division. Most recently, she spent 6 years with Zoom Information within Business Development providing large quantities of data to third party data providers.

Scott Gordon
SVP Content Partnerships

Scott works with third parties who help NetProspex bring its assets/services “out” to the market. He also looks for partners to license data “in” to enhance our offerings. Scott further oversees NetProspex international offering and partnerships related to it.

Scott is a data industry veteran. He led a startup company data venture – Platinum Data; prior to that he was a Vice President at OneSource and oversaw legal and licensing.

Scott has a B.A. from Tufts and M.B.A from Babson.

Juliana E. Spofford
General Counsel

Juliana joined NetProspex in November 2011. Prior to joining NetProspex, Juliana was General Counsel at RapidBuyr, LLC, a business-to-business daily deal e-commerce start-up. Prior to RapidBuyr, Juliana was Counsel at Dow Jones & Company, where she advised Dow Jones’ corporate data enterprise section as commercial corporate counsel. She joined Dow Jones in 2008 as General Counsel of Generate, Inc.

Juliana started her legal career at the Boston firm of Sullivan & Worcester, and the Worcester MA firm, Bowditch & Dewey, where she practiced in the corporate litigation areas. She also practiced in the intellectual property area at the firm, Torti Flanagan, in Boston and Norfolk, MA. She holds degrees from the Gemeentelijk Gymnasium in Hilversum, the Netherlands (1982), Smith College (1986) and Northeastern University School of Law (1989).

Gary Halliwell
Executive Chairman, Co-Founder

Gary Halliwell has spent 20 years building digital business information companies.

Previously, Gary served as the President of Zoominfo, a leading search engine for business people. He was also the Founder and CEO of Intelligence Data, an online competitive intelligence company, now part of Thomson/Reuters.

Gary began his career as a diamond prospector, working in remote areas of the African bush. Today, he is still digs through dirt to find diamonds. Gary has a Masters degree from Oxford University.
