Meet Our Management Team

Mick Mountz
CEO and Founder

Mick founded Kiva Systems in January 2003 after spending thirteen years in high tech product development, manufacturing, operations, and marketing. With a unique blend of warehouse management expertise and technology insight, Mick is the chief architect of Kiva's game-changing product vision. Prior to Kiva, Mick worked on a business process team at Webvan designing a next generation distribution strategy for grocery home delivery, during which he experienced first-hand the high cost of order fulfillment and the inflexibility of existing material handling systems. Prior to joining Webvan, Mick spent three years in product marketing at Apple Computer as a Product Manager where he helped move many new technologies into the standard desktop platform including FireWire, DVD, Fast Ethernet, and 3D graphics acceleration. He began his career at Motorola, where he worked as both a Mechanical and a Manufacturing Engineer. In 2008 Mick was a winner of the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year® Award in the New England region. In 2009, under Mick's leadership, Kiva was ranked #6 on the Inc. 500 list of the fastest growing companies in America, and Gartner named Kiva one of its "Cool Vendors in Supply Chain Management." Mick holds six United States technology patents. He earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a MBA from Harvard Business School.

Pete Wurman
CTO and Technical Co-Founder

Widely respected for his research and practical application of Internet and e-commerce technologies, Pete oversees the architecture of Kiva's host control material handling software platform and the creation of resource algorithms that drive various modules of our systems.  Prior to joining Kiva, Pete was an Associate Professor of Computer Science at North Carolina State, where he served as co-director of the university's e-commerce program and a member of the faculty of its operations research program.  An early researcher in Internet auction technology, Pete led the development of the Michigan Internet AuctionBot in 1995 and earned a prestigious National Science Foundation Career Award to study flexible trading agents. He has spent the past decade researching multi-agent resource planning, game theory and computational mechanism design.  Pete holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a MS and a Doctorate in Computer Science from the University of Michigan.

Amy Villeneuve
President and COO

Amy is responsible for Kiva's end-to-end customer engagement process, from sales and solution design through manufacturing, deployment and ongoing customer support. Amy brings 24 years of experience in corporate strategy, business development, operations, and client management to her role at Kiva. Prior to joining Kiva, Amy was the Executive Vice President, Marketing, Strategy and Product Innovation for Cross Country Automotive Services where she was instrumental in doubling the size of the company over her 7-year tenure. She has also held roles as General Manager and VP of Strategic Business Development at Cross Country. Prior to Cross Country, she was a consultant with the Parthenon Group where she developed corporate strategies for multi-national conglomerates and entrepreneurial clients. Previously, Amy spent 13 years in the auto industry, in a number of leadership, operational and account management positions. Amy holds a MBA from Harvard Business School, a MS from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), and a BS from Clarkson University.

Bob Doucette
VP of Manufacturing Operations

Bob Doucette is responsible for leading Kiva's manufacturing, global supply chain, technical operations and customer logistics functions. Bob brings over 25 years of operations experience ranging from early stage start-up's to multi-national, public corporations. He has had responsibility for several North American and European manufacturing plants. Bob is driving Kiva's ability to scale manufacturing capacity, spearheading lean initiatives and implementing a global operations and supply strategy. Bob came to Kiva from Boston Power, where he was responsible for the manufacturing, supply chain, quality and project engineering on international electric vehicle battery initiatives. Prior to that Bob was the VP of Operations, Supply Chain and Quality for a number of companies including Blueshift Technologies, Egenera, Wavesmith Networks, Marconi, and Fore Systems. Bob has a depth of knowledge and experience in scaling operations through hyper-growth phases as well as running multi-factory global operations. He earned a BS in Management from Lesley College.

Benge Ambrogi
VP of Product and Program Management

Benge is responsible for the development and implementation of Kiva's corporate processes including its quality management system. As the Kiva process owner, Benge draws on over 25 years of engineering and management experience in the commercial, medical and defense industries. At Kiva, Benge has served in a number of roles, including engineering program management, customer deployment management and product development leadership. Prior to Kiva, Benge held design, architecture and team leadership positions at DEKA Research and Development developing products such as the iBOT (tm) mobility device, the Segway Human Transporter and an upper limb prosthetic for DARPA. Prior to DEKA, Benge worked at Hughes Aircraft working on infrared imaging systems. Benge has BS and MS degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and holds a number of patents related to balancing technology.

Joe Quinlivan
VP of Research and Development

Joe is responsible for leading Kiva's software development, hardware, research/architecture, and customer support. Joe's focus on technology innovation and disciplined development methodology has positioned Kiva to meet its scalability and growth objectives. Joe's experience ranges from managing focused start-up engineering teams to complex multi-national business teams. He excels at building products and organizations. Prior to joining Kiva, Joe was an entrepreneur in residence for Prism Ventures after a successful career at Alcatel-Lucent where he served as VP of the Gateway Business Unit. In this capacity, Joe had P&L responsibility for a 700 person global team. Joe has also held executive engineering positions with Lucent, Telica, Fujitsu, and 3Com. Joe holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts and both an MBA and MS in Computer Science from Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
