About the Job

Akamai is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design and develop the next generation distributed processing and communications infrastructure within the System Communications team.

About the Team

System Communications develops and supports communications and data collection infrastructure for Akamai's distributed Platform. These systems distribute configuration data, control information, and customer streaming traffic to Akamai's distributed servers. These systems also publish, aggregate, and deliver internal-system and customer data for use by internal and customer-facing monitoring, alerting, and reporting applications. These systems are among the largest in the world, which brings unique engineering challenge for developing distributed, scalable, and fault-tolerant systems.

Responsibilities

As part of this elite team, you will analyze, design and implement system software that brings new functionality, increased reliability, and enhanced scalability to Akamai’s system. This is a highly motivated and cooperative team, relying on the abilities of all its members to develop innovative and elegant solutions. You must be a self-starter who is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. You must be able to work collaboratively within the team and with other teams at Akamai.

Basic Qualifications

* Education: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or other relevant engineering field.

* Overall 5 years of development experience.

* Minimum 5 years programming experience in C/C++.

* Minimum 5 years Linux/UNIX networking experience.

Desired Qualifications

* Experience with large-scale distributed systems.

* Experience with programming in Perl and/or Python.

* Ability to work in a small-team environment.

* A strong work ethic and a positive attitude.
