Position Description:
We are seeking a highly qualified, experienced software architect/developer to join the Architects team in the Office of the CTO.  The primary focus of this position will be on the Carbonite Server, which is the core of our online backup service. It comprises a number of sophisticated, multithreaded components that work together to provide a reliable, efficient and secure backup service. We deal with the issues around providing this service at very large scale, as we store billions of user files and many petabytes worth of data. The Cloud Storage Architect will work with the development team and the other Architects to design and develop the next generation of Carbonite Storage Services.

Responsibilities:
The successful candidate must possess outstanding technical skills ranging from system architecture to hands-on development, as well as experience and understanding of building mission critical services. The candidate will have a solid understanding of both storage and cloud computing, including knowledge of and/or experience with systems such as S3 or OpenStack.  Responsibilities for this position will including driving the architecture and design for the storage services, working as part of the development team, and interacting with the other Architects to drive the overall vision for Carbonite’s architecture.  The candidate must be capable of working independently, providing technical leadership and possessed of excellent communication skills.

Qualifications:

• 10+ years experience as a developer, including experience building complex, scalable server applications.
• Significant experience as an Architect or Technical Lead.
• Experience with Cloud Storage systems and a good understanding of cloud technologies.
• Experience with Storage and/or Backup systems is a plus.
• Experience with relational database systems (e.g. SQL Server, MySQL) is a plus.
• Experience in a SaaS environment is a plus
