The Application Acceleration and Delivery space is thriving and Akamai is growing with it! We're looking for an accomplished and committed engineering manager to lead a team of top-notch engineers in the design and creation of our next-generation application acceleration and delivery platform. This position will be responsible for the build out and management of an ingenuitive engineering team and an enterprise-class application acceleration product offering.

About the Team
You will be an integral part of a new, highly skilled team of engineers responsible for the design and development of Akamai's most powerful application acceleration product to date. Share in the experience and breadth of knowledge that can only come from managing a global deployment of 60,000+ servers in 1,000+ networks. Akamai's team of engineers have time and again developed unique solutions to complex problems and routinely surpass fundamental limitations of traditional networking. Our technology is changing the rules of the game and challenging traditional thinking in a rapidly growing and very exciting market.

Responsibilities

* Recruit, mentor, and lead a large team of talented engineers to their full potential.
* Coordinate end-to-end designs with Product Architects and associate team Managers.
* Define software development life cycles and manage release schedules.
* Ensure high quality and efficient design, coding and testing practices.
* A candidate for this core position needs to be creative, confident, skilled in software/system design and consistently execute good judgment.
* As leader of this experienced team, sponsor collaborative software solutions to complex and interwoven sets of problems.

Basic Qualifications
* Education: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
* Overall Experience: 5+ years or equivalent experience.
* 3+ years managing engineering teams and mission critical software projects.
* 3+ years experience working with two or more of the following common Internet protocols: IP, TCP, SSL/TLS, HTTP, DNS,
* 3+ years experience with C and C++.
* 3+ years development experience on Linux or other Unix flavor is required.

Desired Qualifications
* Working knowledge of Perl and shell scripting.
* Experience with Linux kernel development.
* Commanding knowledge of the software development life cycle.
* Experience in the Application Acceleration and/or WAN Optimization space.
* High-performance and high-reliability system software design.
* Skilled with TCP/IP networking, multi-threading and server development.
* Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
* Experience with the GNU GCC compiler family.
* Desire to work in and foster a fast-paced, results orientated environment.
