Appeering, a new company formed by PureTech, is developing a powerful web-based toolset that helps professional users discover & manage the most important, industry-specific social media conversations as they develop.  Appeering applies proprietary algorithms to cut through the chaos of social media content and unearth coherent, full conversations among experts & influencers within specific domains.  Users can then explore high-impact content across a variety of topics, filter content according to specific interests, as well as share and participate in conversations in real-time.

Job Description:

PureTech is seeking an energetic developer for Appeering (with potential to work on other PureTech initiatives) to run user interface development and contribute to the core technology platform as needed. The individual will be expected to:

• Implement new UI components, design changes, & new core features based on business/customer needs
• Grow and maintain a modular codebase that works across multiple platforms and devices
• Contribute to the platform development, including database architecture and server solutions
• Work hand-in-hand with the business strategy team to brainstorm, articulate, and deliver technology development
• Contribute and be founding team member of a vibrant startup environment that encourages new ideas and technologies

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have:

• BS or MS in Computer Science or IT related field
• Demonstrated ability to work in small teams that move at a fast pace, preferably with previous startup experience
• Ability to initiate and balance multiple high-priority tasks and priorities simultaneously
• Good communication and people  skills
• Passion for creating applications that are highly engaging for users

Technical Proficiencies:

• Significant experience with modern JavaScript (backbone.js, coffeescript, client side design patterns, etc.)
• Significant experience with HTML, CSS, mobile web techniques, and/or responsive design
• Experience with one or more of the following: PHP, Java, Ruby, Python
• Experience with SQL databases, specifically MySQL
• Experience working with REST APIs using JSON
• Experience working in version control environments using either GIT or Subversion
• Experience working in a Linux server environment
• Bonus: Experience with NoSQL solutions such as MongoDB, Redis, Cassandra, etc., graphic design experience
