TripAdvisor is looking for a Mandarin-proficient Engineering Manager who will be responsible for delivering DaoDao.com (TripAdvisor.com’s Chinese site) from both a software engineering and technical operations for this fast growing site operation out of the US and China. This is a senior management position based in the US for someone who can do it all - handle complex business situations, build teams, be an effective manager of multiple and diverse engineering teams, and is able to use their previous experience as a rock star engineer to be a hands-on mentor and guide. This position is located in Newton, MA.

The ideal candidate will be passionate about working with talented engineering, business, and marketing professionals in an exciting and dynamic environment. This is a hands-on leadership position and you must have a proven track record of delivering highly scalable applications as a direct technical contributor. You will be responsible for building and managing multiple teams of software engineers, systems administrators and QA engineers to deliver effective application and solutions that drive significant company revenue, as well as high traffic to the consumer web site. You will have 10 or more years of proven technical experience and demonstrated managerial / leadership skills combined with excellent oral and written communication. The qualified candidate will have the ability to balance multiple projects and meticulous attention to detail. Lastly, you need to be smart, fun, and enjoyable to work with, love to "make things happen", embrace change, and can thrive on working in a very fast paced environment.

Desired Skills & Experience

• Fluent in both English and Mandarin
• At least 8 years of technical expertise including recent experience with high-performance consumer facing websites.
• BS in Computer Science or equivalent degree from a top university
• A history of success in hiring, retaining, leading, motivating, and mentoring top-tier technical talent.
• An in-depth and hands on knowledge of Web Server, Java, RDB and related open source technologies such as Apache, Tomcat, Ant, Subversion, Memcached, HIVE/Hadoop, and Postgres.
• Advanced knowledge of network communication protocols/engineering concepts, system administration, troubleshooting commands and alerting/trending packages such as Cacti and Nagios.
• Demonstrated success working in and promoting a rapidly changing, collaborative, and iterative product development environment.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate cross-functionally and cross-regionally.
• Ability to work hard and fast while maintaining attention to detail. Have a sense of urgency.
• Strong people management skills, with at least 2 years of managing technical teams.
