Position Description

The Java Software Engineer plays a key role and is an integral part of the development team in the design and development of Utilidata’s exciting next generation platform that will enable multiple smart grid applications that drive energy efficiency and renewable integration into the electric power grid.  The candidate will be working with cutting edge tools and technologies that modernize the electric grid.

Position Requirements

  • Reports to the Vice President of Product Development or designate
  • Ability to work in a team environment interfacing with engineers, quality assurance and technical support
  • Ability to work with high productivity and under tight deadlines

Key Responsibilities

  • Work as part of an Agile development team to develop Java applications
  • Develop software and applications for control, automation, and surveillance
  • Designing, coding and documenting new software products and features
  • Collaborate with QA in development of test cases for Java applications
  • Document code and document detail designs

Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Cyber Security or Electrical Engineering
  • Proficiency in Java (minimum of 3-5 years of experience)
  • Experience developing software on a Linux Platform
  • Experience with version control systems (GIT, SVN, etc.) and issue tracking systems (JIRA)
  • Experience with Spring Framework
  • Experience working with the following technologies: Ant or Maven, ReST
  • Experience in web application development (JSON, CSS/HTML, JQuery, Angular 2, etc.)
  • Experience with Java applications servers (Tomcat, Jetty, JBoss, WebSphere, etc.)
  • Secure coding practices

Nice to Have

  • Experience developing security related software products
  • Experience developing industrial control systems software
  • Web services (RESTful or SOAP)
  • Experience with databases – particularly MySQL
  • C++
