Walt is a seasoned entrepreneur and passionate early-stage investor. Prior to GasBuddy, he co-founded Confirm.io and served as its initial CEO. He also spent over a year as a Venture Partner at Highland Capital Partners. Walt is currently involved as an investor in, and board member of, several mobile and software companies including: Evertrue, a developer of software for charitable giving and fundraising; Invaluable, an online auction platform; PingUp a facilitator of real-time booking; Confirm.io, a mobile identity authentication service; and Clypd, an advertising technology platform for the television industry.
Previously, Walt served as the CEO of WHERE, a local discovery application and mobile advertising network where he grew the team to over 140 people, raised over $16 million from Venrock, GrandBanks and Kodiak, and lead the acquisition of numerous companies. When WHERE was acquired by eBay/PayPal in May 2011 for $135 million, Walt and his team played a pivotal role in PayPal’s omni-channel commerce strategy.
Walt has run and been involved with numerous consumer media and technology companies, including MapQuest (acquired by AOL), DialPad (acquired by Yahoo), Net2Phone (acquired by AT&T) and GameSpot (acquired by ZDNet, a subsidiary of CBS). His career began in Hong Kong with Dow Jones in the early 1990s.
Walt was named a finalist in the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year® 2010 program and was also named a Massachusetts High Tech All Star. He earned a BA in History and Economics from Emory University.
