What is it like to work at your company in terms of your culture?
We are growing at an incredible rate in all areas of the company, so our culture is constantly evolving. We aim to hire people who are intellectually curious, perpetually positive, and genuinely psyched to be a part of a technology that will dramatically alter the way modern enterprises think about their way of communicating and collaborating. Our founders, Steve Kokinos and Derek Yoo, formed and took another company public eight years ago, so this isn’t their first rodeo. They bring that same drive and passion for innovation to ThinkingPhones, and the pre-IPO energy is palpable.
What’s the best way to get a job at ThinkingPhones?
Obviously, we’re big fans of Boston – the sports, the pubs, and especially the unparalleled pool of talent – so we do a lot of local networking. We’ve also got a superb employee referral program, so if you have a connection here, use it!
What can someone expect during the interview process?
Ours is a fairly straightforward process. If the recruiter’s initial phone interview goes well, the hiring manager will chat with the candidate on the phone. If there is mutual interest, we like to bring folks on-site to interview with other leaders on the team and perhaps meet a potential peer or two. We also try to get as many people to speak with our CEO or COO as possible.
What can people expect over the course of their career at ThinkingPhones?
Everyone here is expected to grow with the company. ThinkingPhones is a living, breathing organization that doesn’t know the meaning of the word stagnant. The job you are hired for today will most likely not be the job you have 18 months from now, and we want people who are excited about change. Many of our employees make internal moves, and we have a great track record of promoting hard workers. Every company brags about giving new employees the tools to grow – here, the sky really is the limit.
Are there any favorite activities that the employees do outside of the office?
Our employees like each other so much that they stick together long after work hours are over. In the past, we’ve participated in the JP Morgan Corporate Challenge, sponsored several incredibly enthusiastic (though unfortunately not always victorious) softball teams, and hosted group outings ranging from whale watching to paintball wars to F1 racing.
Are there any fun facts or unique stories that you can share about ThinkingPhones or individuals that work there?
One of the best aspects of our culture is the fact that we don’t have a “type.” Yes, we all share a passion for disruptive technologies and thinking outside the box, but we also have a really varied group of skill sets. We’ve had former professional athletes working next to Harvard MBAs. Seasoned veterans collaborating with brand new graduates. CrossFit addicts joining forces with diehard foodies. We boast a roster of employees who have worked for companies ranging from Microsoft to MTV to Forrester. These uncommon and highly unique backgrounds have resulted in a culture of constant learning and knowledge sharing.
What TV or movie would best describe the working environment and employees at ThinkingPhones?
Although it’s one of our favorites, definitely not Office Space. We aim for the opposite of spirit-crushing policies, mind-numbing busywork, and bland surroundings. Let’s go with Star Wars. Stick with us here. “The Force” is an energy field created by all living things that surrounds us, penetrates us, and binds us together…and isn’t that what enterprise communication is all about? As a company, our sole mission is to enable today’s workers to accomplish bigger, better things through enhanced communication and collaboration. Luckily, our company is actually making that happen, so it’s no longer just a vision in a galaxy far, far away.
