Writing Your First Android App

Thinking of launching an app in Android? This intermediate-level class will walk students through the process of building an Android app that goes a few steps beyond "Hello World". 

Specifically, this class will cover:
  • Setting up a development environment on your computer
  • Stucturing your project
  • Using buttons and toast messaging
  • Integrating 3rd party libraries
  • Connecting to a cloud backend
  • Programming experience (those new to programming may get lost)
  • Some familiarity with Java is strongly recommended

About the Instructor:

Morgan Bickle is the co-founder and CTO of Kinvey; on any given day you'll find him programming mobile SDKs, building backend APIs, and discussing the future of web and mobile technology. Prior to Kinvey, he spent a decade writing enterprise software, and held various technology roles at AMD, where he designed and deployed systems in the areas of big data warehouses, web applications and real-time data-intensive computing clusters. In his spare time, Morgan is a runner, a cyclist, an athlete and the owner of Kinvey’s technology vision.
