The theory of the importance of hiring job candidates with "T-shaped" skills was first introduced in the early 1990s. The concept makes sense. To assemble a truly winning team, hiring managers need to look for prospects who know a fair amount about a discipline (which is marketing, for the sake of this article). The candidate understands the marketing discipline as a whole. In essence, they are a strong generalist and exhibit significant competence across the marketing spectrum.
