We’re very lucky to live in Boston. It’s amazing. Our city is filled with amazing, smart, motivated people. It’s also filled with amazing, innovative startups.
Unfortunately, it can be hard for these innovate startups to find these amazing people. Over a year ago, we here at the Startup Institute set out to solve that problem. We developed a curriculum that focuses on training amazing people and helping them network and get jobs at amazing startups.
Our eight-week curriculum is designed to give people the hard skills required to succeed in one of four disciplines: sales, technical marketing, product design, and coding. But it takes more than just technical skills to be successful at a startup. As one of our hiring partner’s likes to say, “You want to be successful at a Startup? That requires “getting it.”
What’s “it”? “It” is passion. It’s attitude. It’s having realistic expectations about what working for a startup actually means. It’s about focusing on execution, building, and creating something that doesn’t exist. It is also often means a lack of structure, process and resources.
We also teach students the soft skills (emotional intelligence, team dynamics, etc.) they need to succeed in this fast paced environment as well as help them determine if a startup is the right career path for them.
Has this helped?
We think we are making a difference. To date, we have placed over 90% of placed our students. They have joined local startups like Boundless and Evertrue as well as large companies such as Constant Contact, Google and Twitter. Startups aren’t for everyone, but our program is dedicated to helping our students figure out what’s right for them.
There are still thousands of amazing startup jobs open in the greater Boston area and thousands of amazing people who could help fill them.
The application deadline to join Startup Institute Boston’s Fall Class is Oct 6th. To learn more and apply to program visit www.startupinstitute.com.
