Buzz from the Week: Feb 28th – Mar 6th

Last week, the New England Venture Capital Association partnered up with five VC firms to announce CriticalMass, which is a 2,500 sq ft co-working space that is being housed at the Cambridge Innovation Center. The five participating firms include: Bain Capital Ventures, Charles River Ventures, Flybridge Capital Partners, Highland Capital Partners, and North Bridge Venture Partners. Entrepreneurs can locate there for $250 a month, unless you are sponsored by a participating VC firm who will cover the cost for you. The space is wrapping up construction and will be opened soon!

There was a little Boston / Bay Area jib jabber last week after Vivek Wadhwa (researcher / adjunct professor) gave a talk at MIT about "How Silicon Valley left Route 128 in the dust, and how Boston's entrepreneurs can help it catch up." There was lot of back and forth on Twitter and you can see articles about the debate from Scott Kirsner (here) and Vivek (here). End of the day... I think Boston has come a very long way over the past two years and has a right to be proud about all the innovative startups in the area. Things are hopping!!!
2 Important Dates: MassChallenge 2011 officially opens today (deadline for applications is April 11th); MITX is accepting entries for their 2011 Innovation Awards (deadline is April 8th).
