Meet Our Management Team

Patrick Morley
President & CEO

Patrick Morley is president and chief executive officer of Bit9. He is an industry veteran with a proven track record of driving companies large and small to revenue growth and market leadership. Before Bit9 Morley held senior leadership positions with six venture-backed software companies, including three that had successful IPOs. He came to Bit9 from Corel, where as chief operating officer he led the company’s global sales, marketing and operations functions for the Americas, EMEA and Asia. Morley played a significant leadership role in the company’s turnaround, acquisition strategy and eventual IPO. Prior to Corel, Morley was CEO of Imprivata Corporation, a Massachusetts-based security company. He also held senior management positions at Macromedia, Allaire, Rational Software and SQA. He earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and computer science at Providence College.

Gordon Pothier
Chief Financial Officer

Gordon Pothier is chief financial officer of Bit9, overseeing the company’s finance, administration, legal, human resources and facility operations. He has more than 15 years of financial management experience, operational skills and strategic planning leadership. Before joining Bit9 Pothier was senior director at Corel, where he focused on global sales operations and improving the company’s overall back office systems. He played a critical lead role during the company’s mergers and acquisitions, integrating WinZip and Intervideo into the company’s go-to-market model. Prior to Corel Pothier held senior financial management positions at Macromedia, after joining the company through its acquisition of Allaire Corporation. He helped transition the company from a primarily packaged software vendor to an enterprise sales company before its acquisition by Adobe. Earlier he served as business unit controller at Bay Networks and he started his career at Sybase. Pothier earned a bachelor’s degree in accountancy and an MBA in finance from Bentley College.

Harry Sverdlove
Chief Technology Officer

Harry Sverdlove, Bit9′s Chief Technology Officer, draws from nearly two decades of application design and analysis with industry-leading IT enterprises to add a new layer of technical expertise and strategic vision to Bit9′s Trust-based Security Platform. Prior to joining Bit9 Sverdlove was principal research scientist for McAfee, Inc., where he supervised the overall architecture of crawlers, spam detectors and link analyzers. He joined McAfee through its 2006 acquisition of SiteAdvisor Inc., where he was chief scientist and developed systems for testing, detecting and analyzing any Windows-based application. Prior to SiteAdvisor, Sverdlove ran his own consulting company specializing in Windows automation and spam detection. He also was director of engineering at Compuware Corporation (formerly NuMega Technologies). Prior to NuMega, Sverdlove was principal architect for Rational Software, where he designed the core automation engine behind Rational Robot. He earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Adam Liberman
Vice President of Engineering

Adam Liberman is Bit9′s vice president of engineering. He has more than 20 years of leadership experience in engineering development and management. Before joining Bit9 Liberman was vice president of engineering for Ounce Labs, where he oversaw all research and development. Prior to that he was responsible for ClearQuest product development within IBM-Rational. While at SQA, Liberman was the product engineering lead and architect of  defect tracking and test management solutions. At Rational, he held several positions including director of engineering for the SQA business unit. Liberman earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in computer science from Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

Eric Schurr
Chief Marketing Officer

Eric Schurr is chief marketing officer of Bit9 and leads all aspects of the company’s worldwide marketing including strategy, messaging and positioning, brand development, demand generation, digital marketing, website messaging, social media strategy, and analyst and public relations. Schurr has more than 25 years of experience in the software industry, as a leader in product strategy, branding and innovation with companies ranging from startups such as SQA and Gomez to leading global enterprises including IBM, Rational Software, Compuware and Cognos. He was chief marketing officer for the world’s 23rd largest software company, Rational Software, which was acquired by IBM. While at Rational, Schurr also founded and ran the business unit that produced a milestone product line that within 18 months generated more than one-third of Rational’s new-product revenue. At SQA, he drove the company’s product and marketing strategy and was a key member of the executive team that took the company public. Previously Schurr was an executive in residence at Greylock Partners and served on the board of Active EndPoints, a startup focused on building leading software in the BPEL market. He earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and English composition from Depauw University in Greencastle, Ind.

Ed Filippine
Vice President of Worldwide Sales

Ed Filippine is vice president of worldwide sales for Bit9. He has extensive experience in senior sales leadership roles for IT hardware, software and services companies. Filippine joined Bit9 from HP Vertica, where he was vice president of worldwide sales. Prior to that he was general manager of the Americas for Acronis, responsible for the company’s strategy and business across North and South America and overseeing sales, channels, marketing and pre-sales engineering. Previously Filippine was vice president of the Americas corporate sales division for EMC, where he managed sales, pre-sales engineering, operations and services for an organization of several hundred employees. Earlier in his career he held executive sales positions at WorldCom and American Network Exchange. Filippine earned a bachelor’s degree in finance from St. Louis University.

Di Hall
Senior Vice President of Product and Customer Operations

Di Hall is senior vice president of product and customer operations, leading Bit9’s product development, implementation, customer management and support activities. She has 25 years of experience in both software product development and professional services, including leading successful research and development, technical support and client services organizations. Before joining Bit9, Hall was vice president of operations and customer success for Watchfire, a Web security software company, where she led professional services, customer support and training initiatives. Hall also was vice president and chief operating officer at Viant, building custom developed Internet businesses. Earlier in her career she held senior management positions at Cambridge Technology Partners and Easel Corporation. Hall earned a bachelor’s degree in computer science from the University of Massachusetts, Lowell.

Brian Hazzard
Vice President of Product Management

Brian Hazzard is vice president of product management, overseeing all of Bit9′s product development initiatives. He joined the company in 2006 to help launch what is now the Bit9 Trust-based Security Platform and drive the product portfolio strategy. Hazzard has a wealth of security systems integration experience, having worked previously at Molecular, a leading technology consulting firm, as a security and technical consultant to financial services clients such as MFS Investments and JP Morgan in the design and implementation of secure online trading systems. Prior to that, Hazzard worked in information security for GTE Government Systems and MIT Lincoln Laboratory. He earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in electrical engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

Amy Robinson
Vice President, Human Resources

Amy Robinson is vice president of human resources, leading Bit9’s talent and organizational development strategies. She focuses on recruiting stellar people, developing talent, growing leaders and driving company culture. Robinson has more than 20 years of talent development experience in the technology sector, helping companies implement focused hiring, career development and employee engagement strategies to support scale. Prior to Bit9, Robinson was vice president of human resources for technology consulting firm Optaros, where she played a key role leading the hiring and organizational development practices that helped the company rapidly scale and expand into five international locations. Previously, she was director of human resources at Omgeo, a financial services technology company. Robinson joined following a company merger to lead the implementation of key programs supporting the desired cultural integration strategies. Earlier in her career she held senior management positions at Viant and Thomson Reuters. Robinson earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

Eric Pyenson
Vice President & General Counsel

Eric Pyenson is Bit9’s vice president & general counsel. He brings more than 25 years of legal, business development, and international experience in the technology space to Bit9. Pyenson joined Bit9 from A123 Systems, which he helped take public in 2009 and then helped manage its sale in 2013. Before joining A123, he established the in-house legal functions at several Boston-area software start-ups, including Authoria, PurchasingCenter.com and Open Market, where he helped lead that company’s successful IPO in 1996. Pyenson also served on the legal staff of Bull HN Information Systems and was in private practice at the Boston law firms of Palmer & Dodge and Gesmer & Updegrove. Prior to his legal and business career, he worked as an operations officer at the Central Intelligence Agency in Washington, D.C. and overseas, focusing on counter terrorism. Pyenson received his bachelor’s degree from Williams College, a master’s degree in international relations from the University of Sussex, England, and his law degree from Northeastern University School of Law, during which time he served as a clerk to Judge William G. Young of the United States District Court in Boston.

Michael Viscuso
Chief Strategy Officer

Michael Viscuso is the chief strategy officer of Bit9 and the former chief executive officer/co-founder of Carbon Black. A business-minded technologist, Viscuso is known for his drive and sense of mission and is highly regarded in the Computer Network Operations community as a top mind in offensive security. He co-founded Carbon Black in 2011 to provide organizations with unmatched protection, detection and incident response capabilities. Prior to the merger with Bit9, Viscuso spearheaded Carbon Black’s meteoric rise and vastly increased its brand presence in the market. He has a proven history of managing and delivering high-performance solutions and attracting exceptional, highly-motivated talent. Viscuso earned bachelor’s degrees in mathematics and computer science at Villanova University.
