What is it like to work at your company in terms of your culture?
AppNeta provides a challenging workplace ripe with professional development opportunities and an inclusive, stimulating culture full of relationship-building adventures and shenanigans. Transparency-Performance-Trust are the key values at AppNeta which is why we are successful. As a fast growing start-up, Matt Stevens, CEO, fosters an environment of risk taking and a open door for all employees to collaborate and share ideas. No need to navigate the red tape of a large enterprise company to get your voice heard or turn your brainchild into reality.
That fluidity applies to every department. With offices in Boston, MA, Providence, RI and Vancouver, BC, AppNeta is a diversified, collaborative organization and our employees bring different experiences and points of view to the table. As part of the AppNeta team, you get the chance to share your expertise while learning from some of the smartest folks around. Matt Stevens hosts monthly company-wide meetings to introduce new hires, share industry updates, celebrate team successes and recognize individual contributors. Our Boston-based Sales organization hosts semi-monthly townhall lunches to keep the team informed of the latest sales techniques.
It’s not uncommon to see the Sales and Marketing teams hanging out with Engineering and QA … or enjoying a night of karaoke together. And we refuse to allow state lines or international borders to keep our teams apart. Every week, our Boston and Providence Engineering teams take turns traveling to each other for a day of on-site collaboration and team lunches. And at least once a quarter, we send folks from Boston and/or Vancouver to the respective other office to make sure that their only interactions aren’t over the phone or via Google Hangouts.

What’s the best way to get a job at AppNeta?
We’re rapidly hiring, so we accept applications from all of your standard venues. You can apply directly through our website or other job boards such as LinkedIn, Indeed, etc.
Since cultural fit is a big piece of the AppNeta puzzle, we put a lot of stock in employee referrals. If you know someone (or know someone who knows someone) at AppNeta, you should work with them to decide if you’re a good fit to join the team. From there, they can put you in touch with one of our in-house recruiters.
In regards to fit, we’re looking for someone with an entrepreneurial spirit who isn’t afraid to jump right in and get their hands dirty. You’re a team player with experience in the tech industry or a passion to break into this world. If you don’t already know a lot about the application performance monitoring (APM) industry, you’re ready to learn and will do what it takes to succeed individually and as a part of the AppNeta family.

Goofing around in the Boston office
Are there any favorite activities that the employees do outside of the office?
From pumpkin carving contests to harbor cruises and ski trips, we know how to have a good time … while still working hard, of course. Every Thursday, the Boston office enjoys an afternoon happy hour where all employees and departments are welcome to kick back and engage in a friendly game of ping-pong or two. In Vancouver they host monthly beer socials and weekly lunches. We bring in cake monthly to celebrate employee birthdays. The organization bands together for AppNeta run club, compete in the JP Morgan Chase and other local runs and get our collective zen on during in-office yoga sessions. The Boston office also formed a semi-successful softball team (semi being the operative word) and raced our way to victory at the F1 track in Braintree.
As a team, all locations enjoy annual summer and holiday parties ranging from a nighttime harbor cruise around Boston to an evening playing the tables at some of the nicest local hotels. And when we tire of the endless Boston snow, we celebrate our team’s successes with trips to places like Miami, the Bahamas, Las Vegas and Whistler.
In addition to having fun with our colleagues, employees like to get out and about in our communities to give back. Our marketing organization coordinates regular on- and off-site charity events in which anyone can participate. Everything from serving lunch at Rosie’s Place and the New England Center for Homeless Veterans and cleaning up Carson Beach to building houses in Roslindale and running food drives, AppNetians are always looking for an opportunity to better the community in which we live and work.

Are there any fun facts or unique stories that you can share about AppNeta or individuals that work there?
We seem to be a musical bunch. Among us we have - a former hip hop/rap producer, a former barbershop quartet member, a club DJ, a member of a 18+instrument brass band, a few former college acapella members, a former opera singer, and two music majors. Sadly, none of them sung their interview responses.
And if that wasn’t unique enough for you, we also have a former semi-professional wrestler in the mix.

Do you have any unique benefits or perks?
To keep everyone energized throughout the day, we provide daily snacks and drinks and regularly provide catered lunch. And because we trust each other to do our best work and get the job done, we operate an unlimited vacation policy. People take time off when they need it, guaranteeing that everyone has the cherished work-life balance and has a chance to experience all the world has to offer. We think that happy employees are the best employees.
